Default Mufflers

I apologise beforehand for another muffler thread. I noticed there are a few of late.

I run a stock exhaust setup except for secondary cats being removed. The idle is louder and generally the car on WOT sounds decently loud to scare pedestrians. Overall I'm quite satisfied with the setup but have a thought...

I was wondering if anyone has replaced just the OEM mufflers with aftermarket straight through mufflers ie Magnaflow and retained the factory setup everywhere else. I'd imagine this would be a little bit louder than OEM so no drone and not quite as loud as an ISS/JoeZ setup.

I have my 2nd cats removed as well as mufflers. So in other words I have no mufflers, just straight pipes. It is surprisingly tame. At certain RPM's it is about as loud as the ISS QES track exhaust but with wayyyyy less drone. I drove 13 hours in one weekend (to/from Canada) and exhaust noise didn't bother me at all. IMO it's the perfect amount of noise. Anything louder or quieter wouldn't be suitable.

^^^^Actually you have retained the resonator, that is a type of muffler.

I did a similar setup to this on my IS250... it was still too quiet for my taste. I ended up doing a non resonated midpipe.

Thanks everyone for their input. I was concerned about it being too loud without mufflers hence a replacement with a "sports" style muffler. I guess there is no point given that the drone is not excessive without mufflers.

For those of you who ran this setup and now are on an ISS/JoeZ/Borla, what was the reason for the change and is it louder? I've been in an ISF with ISS and there was a little bit of a drone.

That is so true my friend.

My previous car was an Audi S4 with the 4.2 V8. I had two Magnaflows at the back and she sounded beautiful without drone. That was what got me thinking with the ISF.

Cheers to everyone for their input

Your not gonna get too many replies as this has been talked about heavily.

People with this mod that went with name brand exhausts are because they wanted to get an x pipe, true dual exhaust, mandrel bent tubbing, get rid of the crushed Y pipe and bends which all = MORE HP!

If your AUdi had an exhaust like this I'm pretty sure there probably would have had slight drone as well.

Like I said if you want zero drone stick with stock or just hack off the oem muffler and put magna flows

Yesterday I had the OEM mufflers removed. I drove around for the night with the mufflers off. I had removed the secondary cats previously. The car sounded beastly on WOT but was way too loud for my liking (must be getting old).

So today, I had 2 magnaflows fitted. It's much better but still quite loud. I'll have to find a new place for the coins in my cupholder as it rattles around a bit.

Overall, I'm happy with the result. Visually, I'll have to spray the mufflers black as it is polished and accentuates the non connected tips.

Thanks for everyone's input.
