Default Steering Issue Again

Hey guys, steering warning light + loss of power steering again, seems to be getting worse. First happened after an aggressive launch a few months ago, warning light came on and the power steering was gone.

It happened again last night as I was going to pass a car on a 2 lane highway, as soon as I mashed the throttle the steering light came on, lost power steering (sort of scare on the freeway).

The dealership is 2 hours away, the problem goes away when I restart the car. It seems to be worse in sport mode. I really don't want to leave my car with the dealer for days, but I don't think I have a choice? They have offered for a free flat bed towing from my home town, and I have lots of warranty left.

Sucks. You should really let the dealer fix it. I can't imagine a any fix being DIY simple - it might be a steering ECU issue?

Good luck...ask them to flatbed you a loaner.

There is no way that this could have to do with my PPE header wiring right?

If you have warranty left and the dealer is willing to tow it, I'd let them diagnose the issue.

When I had the steering ECU installed, the car was difficult to move (expected), but it's unknown how much bearing it would have on other steering functions during a malfunction. I haven't looked at the complete header install, but this is what the steering ECU area looks like. If anything isn't in its proper place, it should be quick to spot.

But again, I'd take advantage of that warranty, assuming nothing was touched.

Update

One week with the dealer, they replaced the steering ECU, didn't fix it. Apparently they're now replacing the entire steering rack. See how that goes!

Any news, or are they taking another week?

I forgot to update. They went back to saying they didn't have the steering ECU connection tight, ended up not replacing the steering rack. It worked great for a couple of months.

However, today pulling into work, my power steering went out again, and the light came back on. Sad, I'm really thinking about selling the car now.

Sounds unfortunate. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

On another note, LMK if you sell your headers!

I would continue to bring the car back until they actually fix it. If the dealership cant fix it after 3 attempts I would call Lexus Corp. and see what they say or suggest. Obviously there is an issue.

I have never read or heard of this issue other your case. Have you came across anyone else with identicle issues?

I've looked and searched, I haven't seen another person with a similar issue. The dealership is a couple of hours away, pain in the butt!

Ouch, that can be a BIG factor! What are their thoughts on fixing this issue?

You can't sell it like that. Go medieval on the dealer, they have to get it right.
