luckily replacements are only about $11 shipped for a pair from an ebay lexus dealership i found... sewell i think is $12+shipping...

Wow, didn't know this was normal... had my fob with no key attached for over 2 years and didn't have trouble looking like that until I put the house key on and that's when I noticed it started to get tore up... weird...

I thought that was the point of the exercise. A cheap cover that takes all the abuse so the key's shell doesn't get all scarred up and cost a small fortune to replace. I've been through three of them already and have no keys attached to mine.
I quit putting car keys on a ring right after I saw what happens when a knee airbag punches your house keys into you knee. I also replaced the interior plastic in my Supra and have never had another key with the ignition key to prevent scratching up the new panel. Sure it's a PITA to have your car key loose, but when you try to replace interior panels on a Supra, you'll know why it's a good idea to keep it a solo key.
