Default oil leak question

hoping someone can chime in on this. noticed some small drops of oil in my parking space.

seems to be coming from this hose connection. this hose is located underneath the driver side radiator fan, its at the very bottom of the car.

apologies for mr blurry cam, i was reaching under the car with my iphone, kinda the best i could do. bringing it into the shop monday, just wanted to see what people thought.

sorry for the stupid question, but what is even this tube/pipe for? i obv don't know much about cars!

thanks in advance for any help

thanks mate, yeah worse pics ever, sorry. ha

you think its just that clamp cutting through the tube on there or ripped a little maybe? or maybe the clamp isn't all the way on the metal tube part

wonder if i should be worried about this slipping off, anyone know how long that metal pipe part extends by chance?

That clamp is cutting into the hose, you can see it in this picture, for sure that's your leak on the fluid pressure side.

cool thanks digger, does appear rather obvious now, ha.

so anyone happen to know that hose part number (guess i can just ask the parts dept at lexus).

also, would i need a new clamp too or just replace the hose should be fine? and does anyone think there is risk of that hose sliding off? i'm also just curious if the oil/fluid flows to the right in that picture, seems like if it flowed the other way stuff would leak out anyway with just a clamp on an intact hose...

finally, all that black sludge looking stuff, i'm assuming thats just dirt and crap that gets mixed in with the oil that leaks out?

thanks,
b

Looks like this hose - 32943-53060, and this clamp - 90466-16004. The fluid leaking is ATF, so you'll need to check/adjust the fluid level in the transmission. If you are under warranty, I would have Lexus fix this. If you're out of warranty, buy the hose and two clamps along with a quart of WS ATF and you should be in pretty good shape to do the repair yourself.

FWIW, there are 10 hoses in the ATF cooling system because there is an oil/coolant heat exchanger and an oil/air heat exchanger. Seeing your pictures makes me nervous. I've never seen OEM clamps cut a hose from the factory. Has anyone serviced the radiator or had to remove the engine undercover before? And whatever you do, don't replace the clamps with worm screw hose clamps. The OEM style clamps are vastly superior to any worm screw clamp.

Adjusting the fluid level is a real PITA though. Since you've already lost some unknown amount of fluid, you would be wise to get this solved quickly. No auto gearbox likes being run low on fluid for long.

thanks very much lobux. i'll take it to the dealership in the morn. what would be your labor hour estimate on this 1.5 at the most right? i found the atf fill procedure, it does look like a pain, ha.

no way i could do this myself, don't have tools or anywhere to really work on it. not that i have the know how anyway.

but yeah, i'm pretty sure some moron serviced something on there, no way that would be like that from the factory. i don't have the complete vehicle history from previous owner, but just assuming thats the case here.

In all likelihood, they'll charge 3 hours to do it. I would see if Lexus will cover it. This should not ever happen. The area where this hose lives is well protected by the engine undercover, so either this was done wrong at the factory, or someone serviced the vehicle and screwed it up (maybe when a coolant pump was warrantied?).

so dealer says they don't think that was an OEM lexus hose and that its slightly thicker than the OEM one, which is why the clamp was biting into it.

charging me 190 total to replace the hose and perform the fluid check/fill procedure. guess i'll just request to have the tech document the fill procedure to at least give me SOME kind of assurance they do it properly.

I had a leaking AT sensor on the top of the transmission, had it replaced under warranty.......I got about 12 km's from my Lexus dealer after picking up the car, turned a corner and the AT light came on and then as the low fluid level picked up air started slipping (high RPM no forward movement).

They sent a flatbed and a car, serviced the level properly for another day. Dropped it off to me at work and filled up the fuel tank.
