I would love to get the 2013 steering ECU as an upgrade to the steering, but I think they're pricey!
89650-53042. You need Techstream access to calibrate it when you install it. Not necessarily the dealer, just Techstream. Thread is here:

To be clear... Lobixracer, you had the notchy steering problem and only replaced the steering ECU, not the entire steering rack?

Exactly correct. Same steering rack, new ECU.

If I didn't have my extended warranty, I would have tried the ECU upgrade. But they insisted on the steering rack. Probably because it costs more?

On a separate note.. We should really have these common issues stickied.

I'm having the same notchy steering issue on my 2011 with 70,000 km (44,000 miles). After reading through all the related threads it looks like some ppl fixed the issue by replacing the rack and some by just replacing the ECU. It doesnt seem to make sense. Though I would assume that replacing the rack would also involve recalibrating the ECU? If so, then it would seem that the common factor for fixing the issue is just that (recalibrating the ECU). Has anyone had success fixing the notchy steering by just recalibrating the ECU?

No one has tried that approach and posted here about it. Lexus has a service bulletin for this and it states pretty clearly "replace the steering rack." I figured I would need to do this, and if that were the case, I'd just get a rack from any 2010 or later 2IS in the junkyard and be all set, but when I replaced the ECU, it wasn't necessary. I replaced the ECU first because I wanted the updated parameters of the later model cars, but got the notchy steering squashed as a side benefit.

It's interesting that you fixed it by just replacing the ECU, though I'm not surprised the Lexus TSB is way overkill. On my IS250 6MT I had a nasty clutch noise and the TSB fix was to replace the clutch disc, flywheel and entire transmission, lol. Turns out all it needed to fix the problem was a sprung clutch disc. I will have the ECU recalibrated and I'll report back.

Hi lobuxracer,
Can you please email me at dave.tokiwa@gmail.com? I am new to forum and can't PM you. I have GSF suspension questions and would like your thoughts.
Thanks,
Dave
