If you have a choice, don't use sand or glass beads (they're essentially the same thing). Use plastic media, nut shells, or even nickel slag, but using sand could result in a disaster if any of it gets inside the caliper. It's very, very difficult to keep it out. I've done quite a bit of this stuff, and you can't beat plastic media for removing the paint without damaging anything.
