Need help identifying potential problem with transmission
Before anyone asks, I've tried doing my research and also using the search function, but haven't found anything on what I'm about to ask.
This past weekend I was driving on the freeway, averaging 80 mph, with sport mode on, and in M mode. I noticed when shifting from 7th to 8th, and going 80 mph or greater, the car would sometimes rev an extra 200 rpm on the tachometer before dropping down. This was the first time I've ever noticed this occur on my car. After noticing this I started playing around and testing out whether this was normal with my car. I repeated the up shifting, going 80 mph or great in the same conditions, and noticed that the car would repeatedly rev an extra 200 rpm, before dropping down (from the normal gear change). This problem doesn't always happen, and when trying to recreate this problem, the car shift as it normally should, with an instant drop to the RPM when shifting from 7th to 8th. To my knowledge, this hasn't happened in the past. From my observation, the situation doesn't happen when up shifting from any other gear aside from 7th to 8th, and doesn't happen when I'm going under 80 mph.
I've managed to capture the event on video, which is shown below. The first video you can see my mph, and the gear I'm in, right before the shift to 8. If you look closely, you'll see that once I shift to 8, a split second later the rpm needle shoots up 200 rpm, and drops to the appropriate rpm. The second video is a bit more clear and also has better sound, which you can hear the rpm shoot up, before dropping down. You can't see what gear I'm in but I'm also going from 7th to 8th.
Anyone have any ideas or insights on this? I'm not sure if this is a problem or if this is just normal. But either way I'm going to take it to the dealer when I get the chance. Just wanted to see if anyone could chime in.

Oil maintenance comes on every 5k... does it on my car. It's just a reminder.

this looks like typical throttle blips in M mode on downshifts. My 3IS does this also but only in M mode. Throttle blipping is for rev matching on downshifts so the shift is smoother and faster. When you hear an ISF coasting down after a dyno run, you can hear it blip the throttle.

I believe the transmission is able to lock up the torque converter in all gears except 8th. This may just be a flare in RPM due to the torque converter unlocking while shifting in to 8th.

I don't know if this will help you or if it is the same as your issue, but my old IS350 did the same thing around 50-60KM when changing from 4-5 gear. The dealer told me that this was normal.

I specifically tried to replicate this last night in my 2012 IS-F.
I was on the freeway and remembered this thread, after shifting from 7th to 8th at all different speeds from 50 all the way up to 80 I'm here to report it does not do this on my car.
I watched the tach carefully and it does not jump any RPMs when upshifting 7th to 8th.
Either way it seems pretty insignificant and I probably wouldn't worry too much about it.

The first thing to check is the transmission's fluid level. Sounds like it might be a little low.

I would definitely check that at the dealer, I don't have that problem but I've found on mine that in manual sport mode, the car don't seem to like being shifted at low rpm (under 3000rpm), mine gives a hard kick in the butt from 5 to 6 at 60 mph, maybe it's just made to be drive hard
