I ended up removing the pass-through in the rear seat and installing a single kicker sub there, with the LC2i wired in. Acoustically it's far from ideal, but it takes up very little trunk space and is still better sounding and more reliable than the stock ML sub.

Did you use an amp? I don't see an amp in your pic.
