The flasher relay is required because the 2008 has a two turn bulb system and the 2011 is reduced to a single bulb.

The DRL is not related to the flasher.

Ok thanks for the fast reply...the relay is all i need for this mod?
Relay p/n : 81980-06020
this mod does not require any re-wiring or splicing right?

As I understand it, the LEDs won't work as driving lights without repining some of wires in the headlight wire harness. Even with that, you still will not get the 50% bright LEDs when the headlights turn on without running a separate relay. Also, your AFS-off light will be constantly on in your dash since these headlights no longer contain that feature.

I'm sure there is more to this that I am missing as well.

From my understanding, If you don't have the newer flasher module, your blinker will blink very quickly. Repinning is needed for the LED strip, but no splicing, however there is also some rewiring involved and adding an additional relay if you want them to operate at 50% bightness with the headlights on.

I'll be going through this soon enough and have already done some of the prep work (AFS light, disable DRL).
There are threads detailing all of these items but I don't have them bookmarked on this computer and am too lazy to search

Yes there is a lot more to this.

Thats why there is already a 200 page thread on the topic. Plus multiple postings on specific IS F related questions in here.

Do your research first, before ordering the lights.

To name a few things:

OEM from Sewell plug and play lights versus OEM lights
Repinning the power connectors
LED operation
AFS dash light
Relay Falsher change
Bumper fitments - modifying to fit 2008

etc....

I hope you guys know that if you plan on doing this mod that you will not be able to use the LED strip as a "DRL" without turning your parking lights on..... or having your headlights on full on. I did the MY2012 upgrade and I thought the LED strip would work as a DRL like the 2011-2014 is' would but it doesn't without turning your parking lights on. IMO it looks goofy because your rear taillights are on when you have the parking lights on. The only way to have it as official "DRL's" is to have it hardwired to your ignition. which you can also find in the "search"

Hey Digger08,

Just curious to know, do you current have the AFS dash light too? I followed your build thread on my.is and forgot if you commented on it.

I'd recommend picking up MY 2012 and up headlights. Most of the 2011 had the paint bubbling issue right underneath the led strip.

Lots of great info!
Was looking at a 2010 and doing this upgrade. May wait and look for a 2012 after reading this though

So if the new head lights are not required, will they still work fine by plugging in, would only be the led you are playing around with to get to function as dlr?

My MY2012 also had bubbling. Replaced under warranty. I believe the lights with bubbling issues have dark grey paint while the newer ones are more chrome like
