I didn't read this anywhere, I confirmed it with three local Canadian dealers, ken shaw, Erin mills and northwest. The reason why I confirmed it is because I didn't want dealers to be switching in and out conventional to synthetic. I tell them to use the part number listed for my car end of and it always leads to conventional.
I really don't care what people use in this forum, the question I was responding to was "what does the dealer recommend". People are free to do as they will. From factory, the engine has had conventional oil and thats what the Toyota part number is as well.

I went to the dealer last week to get all the materials for my own oil change. I browsed the showroom, sitting a new GS F sport and a saleguy came over to speak to me about it. I told him I was just there to get oil and we get to talking. He had just become a salesman after years working on the service side of the house for lexus, mercedes and porsche (most recently lexus). He said "I don't want to make it seem like we don't want your business, but I wouldn't waste your money on the Toyota/Lexus brand of oil. The best thing to use is Mobil 1, and you can get 5 quarts from Walmart for $25 (US dollars). All Toyota does is take another manufacturer's oil, reformulates it, then rebrands it as their own." He went on to state that the Lexus/Toyota oil filter, though is by far the best one. So I left the dealer with only the oil filter (around $5), went to walmart and got two 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 and saved $2+ per quart.
He also had some interesting tidbits on what service guys for german cars use too.....again mostly mobil 1 lubricants instead of the manufacturer brands (even for very high end cars like the porsche GT3). He said service departments typically push the manufacturer brand because of how much profit they make off of them, not because they are any better.

I've been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. There always seems to be some sort of promotion going on. Last time I purchased it was $1/gallon FRN credit which essentially made the cost of a 5qt jug of Platinum only about $5. Needless to say, I stocked up and ended up filling up my truck for something like $0.70/gallon when gas was approaching $4.

Scion and IS F both use Mobil 1 5w-30
My Supra runs Red Line 10w-30. Turbo engines are very hard on oil.

5w-30 Mobile 1 from Walmart.
I buy the materials myself & have the dealer change it to keep the Autoscore/Carfax up.
