Default Placebo effect?

So for the first time since owning the F (10/28/14) I have the factory wheels installed (2012 version to match my MY) after my same sized WedsSport that are 4lbs lighter all around with +38 offset on all 4 corners. The car feels surprising more 'nimble' is the only way I can describe it. Now, the weds had 245/275 upsize tires to the factory size tires on the factory wheels. It really does feel like the car has more pep, and the steering feels lighter. Could 7mm of offset make that big of a deal?

You should see what the steering difference from stock wheels to my 19x10 all around.. the steering is super heavy but the grip is ridiculously awesome and thats what matters.

Default No placebo effect

I'd venture to say that the pep and nimbleness you are feeling is very real. Simply what the engineers designed in the first place. Most people modify their cars for a different/improved look, usually at the expense of intended performance and/or driving dynamics.

Yes. The suspension design is highly dependent on the contact patches being where the designer intended. When you change offsets from stock, lots of things change, and usually not for the good.

So from a design standpoint if I was to put wider wheels, it would be smart to calculate where the offset would land to match the OEM offsets?

What are you talking about lol.. how do you calculate offset to match an offset?

When changing wheels, get it with close to stock offset.

So a +45 on an 8.5" wheel is the exact same position on a 9.5" wheel? Sorry now that I type it I realize I'm an idiot....

That's what happens when you overthink something...ugh

Since we're on this subject what are the stock offsets front and rear?

Front +45, Rear +55 or +51 depending on the year. The later models with wider wheels have less offset. They also have different suspension parts in the rear.

Yes. Narrower rims and deeper offset in the rear.
