So I was just thinking now that track season in among us all, there are few of us who has mentioned how our cars blow smoke when on the track. For me, I find that I blow smoke just after an oil change as the oil is at its highest and only while tracking. I will blow smoke for a while and then it will stop for good. I recently replaced my air filter and when I removed those tubes from the intake, it appears to be oil on the aluminum outlets(JoeZ) and I mean really wet. Because I don't have my car in front of me and also because I'm not the most inclined on our engines, is it possible that those tubes are picking up oil when flying around a corner and spitting it back into the intake pipe? If I'm correct, like in my old Hondas, the tube comes off the head and circulates back to the intake, is it possible what I think is happening is really happening? And is there somewhere I could route the tubes to prevent the oil from entering the intake and dirtying my throttle body and what not?

 

If you're right, maybe a catch can of sorts is what you need?

Hopefully someone with greater knowledge will enlighten us on what those pipes are, and whether they can be disconnected/re-routed.

I looked into a Catch Can for our car, but if I remember the internals of the engine actually already have a separator built in. I'll have to look in my manuals again.

 

The tubes connected to the intake pipe provide filtered air to the engine for the PCV system. If oil is migrating into the intake from these tubes, it would likely be a problem with the PCV valve being worn out. Airflow should be from the intake tube into these two tubes into the valve covers, not the other way around. This air is pulled into the intake manifold through the PCV valve. This is valuable for two reasons: it burns any blowby gases from the crankcase instead of releasing it to atmosphere, and it reduces the air pressure inside the engine.

 

So maybe the oil I found on the tubes was oil from my K&N filter? I now run the factory filter.

 

Guess it's a possibility?

Did you ever re-oil your K&N though? I'm running one on my car, but don't plan on re-oiling it. Will either buy another one, or go down a different route.

I don't see how you could get a lot of oil from the factory spec'd K&N panel filters??

 

Most likely the pcv valve isn't working properly. It's not that expensive and not hard to replace.

 

I did clean and re oil but never used it. I put is in a ziplock bag and installed a factory filter
