When you say the gasket will help, will replacing the gasket not fully take care of the check vsc light? Also when you called lexus corporate, what did you say to get them to discount the water pump? If you don't mind me asking what did they charge you?

I'm not a trained mechanic or anything, but in my 15 years of doing maintenance on family, friends, and my personal cars I've never seen a catalytic converter fail without some sort of other engine/tuning malfunction. That being said I would be willing to bet its an exhaust leak or an O2 sensor failing.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm just trying to figure out what exactly needs to be replaced, have my who is a mechanic quote me at his price and then see what the price differences are between fixing and replacing with aftermarket exhaust.

Okay those are the gaskets that where replaced for those exact same codes as yours one is for right side other for the left side.

If the water pump is leaking, there are potential problems if you do not get it fixed.

1. If it leaks for long enough, it may cause you to lose enough coolant that the engine will overheat. You don't want that.

2. Depending on where the leak is coming from (I. either from the sealing surface between the water pump and timing cover, II. at the bearing/seal of the water pump, III. out of the weep hole on the water pump itself), there is a potential of the pump making noise, failing, seizing and/or breaking the serpentine belt and causing the overheating issue again.

3. If the leak is major enough, it can spray a nice pink mist throughout the engine bay.

The easiest way to tell if your water pump is leaking. Open hood, look in the front of the engine down at the crank pulley (located at the front of the engine, middle, bottom). If you see any traces of pink fluid or crusty/flaky pink residue near or around the crank pulley...your water pump may be leaking.

If the exhaust leak is at a section beyond metering by the A/F and O2 sensors, fixing an exhaust leak will not fix the P0420/430 codes.

Most likely you have bad catalytic converters of both Bank 1 (P0420) and Bank 2 (P0430).

How many miles does the car have?
