I did not respond to the poll as I personally do not think the factory color is unappealing, but I am not necessarily into the all black wheel look either. I have a lot of friends with a variety of high end cars with black wheels, and rarely does one really stand out. I do however powder coat a lot of wheels on our personal rides some form of dark grey with a little metallic to make it pop. Just bolted on the 18" OEM wheels on my wife's '14 IS that I powder coated Prismatic Evo Grey with a clear top coat (after having my '13 IS-F wheels on it she was reluctant to let them go), and also yesterday I bolted the Roderick 20's back on the A7, that I powder coated Prismatic Crystal Grey with a clear. The Crystal Grey looks black but has a bit of silver metallic imbedded that makes any metallic car look great. You can look at Prismatic, and if you narrow it down to five colors (they have over 6000), they will send you five free samples.

I LOVE the black. I have been thinking of doing the same to my mesh style 2010 wheels. I would do gloss only and not the matte. I keep going back and fourth between swapping them out totally or jazzing them up with the gloss black.

My personal opinion is don't do it. The oem color seems to minimize the wheel gap. If you're staying at that ride height, keep them as is. Black makes everything look smaller. However, I've seen a couple dudes locally who have 19" black Wed Sports on lowered F's which make me think otherwise. I think the key to all black wheels is to lower the car.
Ultimately it's your ride and you should do what makes you feel right.
Good luck

Thanks for the feedback guys,
Yes I agree going black will make the wheels look smaller and won't make the wheels stand out as much.
What I was aiming for is how to make the brake calipers stand out more, I won't be fitting after market wheels and I won't be fitting suspensions so the ride height will stay the same.
To some the wheel gap looks too much and the car isn't lowered enough but personally I don't mind that and with the roads and obstacles I have to avoid everyday I'd like to have it as high up as possible
I'll get my spare wheel painted as a test and see how it comes out

Black wheels will make the entire area smaller, as it will blend in with the tires and wheel wells. Adding some color with the calipers is a great choice, and one that many have made too. Blue or red would be my first choices, but the blue is very similar to the F-sport BBK, and there is already a difficult distinction between the two models as is.

Gloss black will look good. a matte black will make the car look like steelies and will look very low class when the tires are dirty/browned. he also stated he has red calipers which i know what he means. black wheels will always make the calipers "pop". IMO, just needs to be lowered a bit more in the front.
