Time for new tires......need some advice.
There are tons of questions and threads but not much in the question i want. I've heard mix reviews on going 245/275 and 245/285 on stock 08 rims. I really do not track my car but i do DRAG race 1/4 mile. Currently, i have the stock sizes with PSS. What i want to know is, will wider tires help with my launch in getting better 60 ft times, achieving better 1/4 mile times? I know drag radials are best at that, but i want something street legal. Something i can use as my DD. Should i stick to oem tire sizes or go wider tires?
Ps. I also want to try different set of tire brand besides Michelin PSS. For some odd reason, i always get a nail in my PSS tires. Its like they are nail magnets.

Wider tires have more surface area, which helps with cornering, not sure about launching but I don't drag the car. That may be more the type of compound.
The PSS are sticky summer tires.
I had good luck with Yokohama ES100's, and Advan in the past, but that was on a different car.
I would stick with the OEM size myself.
I have not replaced my tires as of yet, so I can't really comment further.

remember that the wider tires will be heavier and may reduce your launch. I tried the 245/285 combo with the stco wheels and the car felt like it has 2 low front tires and two flat rear tires. Looked great but handled like **** . Id say try the 245/275 combo and just go with a better tire. ( more track focused )

Just recently installed Goodyear F1 Assymetric2 set in 245/35/19 and 275/30/19.
- absolutely love these tires, I was always a huge Michelin fan but I would choose these over Michelin's PSS any day to my own surprise. Not to mention you will save about $300 over the PSS.
- they run wider than the Michelins in the same size. I love the grip, wet traction second to none.
- The curb rash protector these tires come with is priceless.

Hey Rossi have been thinking of defecting from PSS too. They grip but they wear too fast and the sidewalls could still be a bit stiffer . Have had my eye on the Good years or even the RE11. The Notto NT05 looks pretty badass if anyone wants to go up to the 245/275 combo. Have been thinking of that as well.

I just purchased the GoodYear Assym2 in the same sizes 245/35 & 275/30 and they're solid! I had placed an order for the PSS in the same sizes but was told that they're back ordered 5months. My previous tires were V12s in 245/35 & 285/30 sizes. The sidewalls were soft and they were unstable as ****! I also hated the tire bulge in the V12 285s. I agree with the rim protector with these GoodYears! Great alternative!

If you are in California with good weather most of the year, throw 245/35R19 and 255/35R19 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires on your stock wheels. You will launch much better than the PSS. You will go through tires much quicker though.

Bought mine with Falkens and when they wore, went with PSS. HUGE difference....much softer, crazy grip, etc. I have aftermarket 20" so not sure how applicable any input I can offer will be, but WOW they are amazing. Expensive, but definitely worth it IMO

Did you buy the S-04s for price? If you are mostly interested in daily driving and drag racing, I'm not sure that is the best tire choice. Yes they are a very good tire, but the S-04's will hook up the same or maybe slightly less than the PSS.

If you want a good street tire that is also good at the strip. You need get the stickiest compound tire with soft side walls; you want the car to squad when you launch it and get as much contract path as you can. Usually a tire with those characteristics are also the lightest. The General exclaim UHP use to be my favorite tire for going to the strip to bad they got discontinued .

Thanks for the input you guys. So far with only 10 miles on it, the S-04s are holding up well but thats too early. I do love the PSS but for some reason, they attract nails? I patched all 4 tires and the rears had 2 patches per tire. Either the roads i'm driving on have those tiny hazards or someone at my work place is secretly "hating." The odd thing is that it only happened on my PSS. Never had it on the stock REs? I shall see what happens this month....
