Anyone ever let their rims get this bad?
I bought my IS-F with 17,000 miles on it and this is what the wheels look like. Whatever this black stuff is I can't get it off. I tried Sonax Wheel Cleaner, IronX and machine polish with Meguiars polish and it did not get the black stuff off. Is the only option at this point sanding? Anyone else have this issue and how did you correct it?

If you like the wheels, have them powder coated at a quality powder coating shop. I have had probably 40-50 sets done over the years. Check out Prismatic for thousands of colors to choose from if you go that route.

I would never let any wheel on any of my vehicles get that bad. In all probability that car ended up at a car wash where they sprayed some type of cleaner on the wheels when they were hot. What you are seeing is brake dust forever embedded in the wheel thanks to the causticity of the cleaner combined with the heat and brake dust.

this happened to my Rays grand touring wheels on my 350z. it was a reaction to an aggressive wheel cleaner that a local dealership had sprayed on. they reimbursed me but it was permanent damage ..kind of looked like spray paint if thats what yours look like in person.
