Default Cruising range on 2012 IS-F

Just bought a used 2012 IS-F 1-owner with 37k miles. Clean Carfax and AutoCheck - very, very clean car.

Test drove it with my wife, fell instantly in love, and signed the paperwork. As part of the dealer delivery, they gave a full tank of gas and washed/waxed the car.

While enjoying the 8 mile drive home in 5:00 traffic, regular speeds of 40-50 mph without any start/stop on the freeway and surface roads, I noticed that the range (distance to empty) on the full tank was only 169 miles!

I realize this is a hi performance V8 - but c'mon! Is there something wrong with the car?

169 is awfully low. What I have seen on some cars lately is low estimated MPG on the computer, and as you're cruising along (no WOT or Speed Racer driving), the estimate picks up. But I've never seen it that low at full tank. Mine hovers around the 250-270 mark all the time.

Use the Trip A or Trip B on the odometer stick to sord of gauge a better calculation on how much you're getting. I remember when I first got my F, I really was Naive in the gas consumption. It freaked the hell out me. But now I'm really used to its behavior and consumption. It's a thirsty beast, but I love it!

300-350 would be more in line with what I'm getting on my RX 330, and I can handle that. 270 I can live with, 250 would still make me rais an eyebrow, but anything sub-200 is ridiculous. I drove it again for about 20 miles last night after writing this, and sure enough, went from 169 to 163 by the time I reached the end of the neighborhood (about .5 miles) and put 10 miles on it (5 miles each way), normal highway speeds with non-sport mode and it reads 143 with 3/4 tank remaining.

I think I will contact my local dealer and have it looked over. Part of the Autonation dealer sales pitch is they have a 3-day, 150 mile "no questions asked" return policy. Hope I don't have to use it, because I really like this car!

My commute is mostly highway so I've been averaging around 22 mpg and can go a bit over 300 miles.

Mine always says about 250 miles to empty after a fillup. But, I drive it hard the entire tank. I didn't buy it for mileage, nor did I buy it to drive slow and commute.

I'm the same way. My tank ranges from 210-250 miles.

If you're light on the throttle and do a lot of highway cruising, I'm sure you'll be in the 300 range like others have said. The car needs to time to learn your style and calculate your mpg.

Since you mentioned you just bought the car, maybe it's been sitting at the dealership await and it's been on a few test drive where people drove it full throttle, so computer probabaly calculating mileage base of that drive. So range would be low. If would take some time for computer to adjust again. But you can fill up your gas and use the tank avg. screen for a better track of mileage. If tank avg still in low teens then you probabaly got an issue with the car.

All highway you can get into the 300s. The miles left indicator is very conservative. The car took a little over 14 gallons when I had 0 miles left. It's a 17gal tank.

I've also heard that if you fill the tank before it's actually low it'll throw off the estimate for range.

if it doesn't balance out actually watch the fuel gauge + odometer and figure out a rough mpg yourself, would bet its a small issue with the reader instead of you actually getting ~10mpg
