"Spare" ECU and RR Tune details
Having come from a Hyundai Genesis Turbo, the trend at the time I owned one was, for those receiving tunes, to purchase a "spare" ECU to place the custom tune on. In the event that something unforeseen happened down the road and the tune failed to work, the owner would simply place the "stock" ECU back in the car. The issues at the time were to be sure that the immobilizer info was programmed into the "tune" ECU so that the car functioned with respect to security features.
So,
1) Is a separate ECU for the RR Tune warranted or recommended to minimize downtime without an ECU installed and to preserve stock parameters if needed at a later date?
2) What ECUs are compatible with the ISF (Tundra, LS460, ISXXX??) and could be used as the spare?

With a quick search, it looks like the ECU part # for the IS250 is 89661-53B10 vs the 89661-53A10 for the ISF. Not sure what the differences are with respect to the actual hardware internals... Any ideas?

Whoever cracked the encryption for RR Racing should be able to figure that out by comparing a few other ECUs. Gauging by the picture Rafi posted a few days ago, they've gone straight to the board for their hardware interface so that wouldn't be too difficult to determine.

I've been looking into the same thing as well, since I come from the honda world, I used to chip/remap SOHC ECU's from civics and have them set up for DOHC set ups. A lot of different ecu's from different models were interchangeable as long as it was the same OBD and the software/ .bin file reflected what it was programmed to run.
There's an ECM on ebay that lists its from a 2013 ISF, part number 89661-53Q80 and another one from an 2009 ISF showing 59661-53D50
I really want to find a spare F ecu so I don't have any down time if I decide to go with this RR tune... F is my only source of transportation. Let us know if you find a definite answer

I'm under the impression that getting a salvage/used ECU(ECM/PCM) and having it actually work for your car as a back up will be pretty hard to do.
You will need techstream software to be able write to the ECM and immobilizer for your keys. And that works for blank ECMs. If you cant perform the "handshake" between the two, then the car wont start.
I believe that if you get a used ECM you have to have the keys that go with it so that you can modify it. I am not entirely certain how it works, but I think having a used ECM will be hard to find...getting a new ECM will be pricey...
But I may not know what I am talking about too...Lobux would know more.

Once tuned, is there ever a way to return the stock factory tune to the ECU? This would be useful to those who no longer want the tune, in the event of removing all/some mods, or those wanting to return to stock for sale of the vehicle.
