Default Please help! Buying New F, but Unexpected Problems!

Everything was smooth sailing, when I discovered this F. It has a clean carfax and autocheck, super clean interior and exterior, until I tried to calculate my registration fees.

There is a bunch of nonsense vehicle registration fees that I see when I calculated it.

I tried going on the vehicle registration fee calculator on the DMV website and I see that I need to pay $3000 worth of registration from 2013 to 2016 because it was "an abandoned vehicle". The car's owner is located in Nevada right now with a clean Nevada title since 2013, no accidents, super clean besides a few on the bumper. I shouldn't be charged for all this non-sense abandoned vehicle fee right?

Should I even buy this car or should I wait for a better one since it was "abandoned"? God, this feels so bad. What should I even do? I already bought my plane ticket to pick up the car tomorrow, no refunds too.

Good god, that's rough, I had to pay $1100 total in taxes and registration fees when I bought my IS350, I was mortified. I NEVER buy from dealers but I couldn't find a low mileage clean 350 being sold by a private party (private = no tax in AZ). $6k is crazy, that is almost a 3rd of what I spent on my 350, really does seem to add up/make sense as you itemized it, glad I don't live in California.

Id say something is wrong with your calculations. I don't know what but that number looks erroneous . 95% of what is listed looks odd

If those numbers are legit move on to another car

California DMV thinks the vehicle is still registered and haven't paid its dues, but it has a clean title in the state of Nevada. Carmax transferred the car from CA to NV, so I'm guessing carmax screwed up and did not do their proper paperwork, so now the DMV thinks the car has been abandoned since none of its registration fees are paid.

You paid for the car already? I would make sure the Seller is going to take responsibility if that much fees are due.

I thought I paid a lot when my registration was slightly over $500. Cali has one of the highest tax rates on everything.

^^Yup. These fees in cali just keeps going up and it seems almost every year, they add new fees to the registration.

Was this a private party or dealer sale?

regardless is the seller taking responsibility of the situation with the registration?

idoke dont want to scare you or be negative here but if the car was abandoned where hast it been for the last 3 years? If it was abandoned how does it show any records of it at all?

Edit carmax has that 5 days buyback gaurantee or something like that and since its coming from carmax they should take care of the fees for you. I would inspect the car really good since it has that history maybe purchase a ppi.

What a load of *@#%!!. 3300 in fees because it wasn't registered for the last 3 yrs, thats bs, should be responsibility of the previous owner(s).

Walk (no, run) away from that deal.

I did not pay for the car yet. I was planning to fly to Nevada tomorrow to buy it and drive it back to California. It is sold by a private owner who bought it from CarMax when it has 3k miles on the clock. Carmax did not do their proper paper work when they sold the vehicle so the CA DMV system thinks its an abandoned.

Thought I could buy this car, but nope. Too many discrepancies, too much weight on me if I purchase a vehicle without knowing the outcome. I could buy a 2014 with that kind of registration fee!

Why don't you guys contact the carmax that he purchased the ISF from originally and ask them to straighten the mistake out?

An alternative to walking away from the deal is to send your data to the seller and ask them to drop the sales price by ~ $3000
I don't know how some of you can live in CA. Most of the cars I've owned in TX, my annual registration has been less than $100.

Lucky you, unfortunately Cali is that easy on fees Anytime I buy anything tax is always factored into the equation.

When you buy an out of state vehicle and register it in CA, do you pay CA sales tax too when registering the vehicle?
