anyone check their gas mileage instead of reading the gauge which doesnt mean much. you know by filling up then dividing by gallons on next fill-up.

24 MPG is the best I ever got..................I've been driving it pretty fast lately. I'm using my SUV all week, so when I finally do take the 'F' out, it's like dejavu all over again...............

I drove to Vegas from the Bay Area when I lived in CA, had a rental car.

it's tempting to speed.............had a Lancer Evo 8 blow by right when I was merging back from my bathroom break.

Not 10 second pass and my Valentine 1 starts singing Ka-band...........all of the sudden this CHP car just pops out of the embankment in the middle, this huge cloud of dust and rocks is flying everywhere.

CHP - 1

Lancer Evo - 0

I hear you though, there are many places to open up that car.

My best was 29.7 or 29.8...going from San Diego to Las Vegas and back. I think I could do better, but its hard not to open the car and let loose.

Best I've hit was 27mpg... thats exiting the freeway, filling up, and getting back on the freeway...constant 78-82 mph. I'm currently averaging 20.1 while commuting on the freeway mostly.

27 at 78-82? Lucky you. I dropped it down to 58 in cooler weather around the 40's low 50's. And it read 28. Now I'm not %100 sold that gauge is perfect since i filled up and there was about a .6 mpg difference on the minus end. But it's about time Lexus caught up to the Vettes in that time being able to achieve those similar results. But give me the Lexus. For the guy that was getting 31+ at higher speeds??? I have my theories. How about non ethanol gas? Anybody only use it? If so what are your numbers?

Yup that's really the only way to do it.

I averaged 34 mpg on my way to parents which is about a 2.5 hr drive. Most of the way is 70 mph and I go between 5 - 10 above usually. It doesn't hurt though that I can coast down the mountain several miles in neutral. On the way back I get about 27.

How did your average go up 2 mpg in just 1 mile, when you only had 1/4 tank left?

I have never used the onboard system. I take mileage when I fill up using the tripmeter. Like I have done for more than sixty years

^More accuracy? I assume these newer units are accurate and I don't bother. I average 16-19 with my driving.

My 1984 bmw was off, I was always 2-4 mpg more than what the OBC states.
