Default Custom Magnaflow exhaust

well, I finally had some mufflers welded up. After listening to a bunch of exhausts and thinking about it, I ordered 2 Magnaflow 12226 mufflers. I'll say right off that magnaflows sound different on a V8 than anything else. It's a GREAT match for this engine. I had them welded up at a local shop. They cut before the crimp under the cross-member, welded in a 2.5" y pipe and some 2.5 back to the mufflers. Yes, it's VERY TIGHT back there and this is only a 14" muffler. Overall cost was about $325.

Over all, I got exactly what I wanted. It's slightly louder than stock, but had a nice growl to it. Being a Magnaflow it will get louder with time, but I love it. A good deep growl. Once the intake flap opens at 3500 you can't hear the exhaust over the intake inside, but outside it sounds awesome still. Foot on the gas it sounds like the flapper is open all the time - that volume. No annoying drones or anything. There's almost no sound except when you're on the gas pretty good.

Get a good pair of speakers for this. The video came out really well.

I'll have to get up under it when I get pics. I still have to paint it so the welds won't rust. It definitely is louder and MUCH deeper than stock and has more of a rumble. If it sounds stock you need to listen to it through better speakers. I did leave in the resonator FYI. It really has that deep, mellow tone I was looking for

sounds awesome i might just go this route. i have a magna flow mid pipe with two high flow cats and cutback on my 2001 ford lightning. if i get magna flow for the IS F, i'll take a sound clip of both. did you buy the y pipe at the shop or from magna flow?

Thanks for the thread, used it for reference. Installed 2 Borla mufflers with similar piping and it was exactly what i was looking for. Slightly louder than stock with a nice hum to it.
