I'm hoping to do the same thing with my 2011. Are you programming with tech stream?

Yes I was able to use the Techstream software. The problem I had at first was I would get to the 2nd to last step and touch the card to the start button and it would register. The last step was to put the newly registered card on the passenger seat and that's where it was failing due to the dead battery in the fob. Evil Teo, you might be trying to use the wrong key card. Below is info that I found in another thread that lists part #'s and their corresponding years, You probably need 50642 to work with your '08.
So what y'all are telling me is that by me buying a random key card... I'm taking a pretty big gamble that it will program.. What if they wipe all the keys and start over.. Ugh, I hope I didn't just waste 70 bucks.. I havnt gotten it in the mail to see what the code is

If it's the 89904-50642 then I would be interested in buying it from you for my 08 ISF
OK fellas, I just got it in the mail and...... Now I think I threw away 70 bucks... Someone please tell me that it can be programmed if they wipe the whole system and reprogram all the keys.

That is the same FCC ID that I have for my 2011. That's good for 2010-2014 I believe. I wouldn't say you threw away $70. I am sure someone on here would buy if from you. Hell.... I might just to have another card key. The only way to know for sure is to either try it....or check your manual to see what FCC ID's are listed as compatible. I am pretty sure wiping all keys would be necessary to program a used pre-programmed key, though. But yeah I would check your owners manual to see if it's listed before going that far.

If you got that card for $70 that's a steal! I've been shopping on eBay and they're going for $200+.
The latest version can be found online....it's the cable that's important. I have an Xhorse mini VCI cable (Mongoose knock-off). The software usually comes with the cable. At least mine did.
I got mine on Amazon, cheap transparent cable, programmed my smart key. Any should work, but I would get the latest, can't go wrong with it, it guides you step by step and how to program a new key.
Well guys, took it to the dealership and they said it couldn't be done because it was already programmed.... And then they offered to me to buy a new one.. So... If anyone has techstream and wants to give this a whirl, I'll sell it for 75 bucks (or Msg me an offer lol)

actually the dealership can program it but they would need all your keys. the dealership probably doesn't know about it but there is a way. I just don't know how to do it using my techstream on a used key as it ask for a password and stuff when you erase everything
Be careful buying these if you think they are used. In order to program a used key you need to wipe all your existing keys through the dealer. Techstream will not program one single used key. If you want to use Techstream buy a brand new key only.
