Johnson Lexus of Raleigh told me 2 days ago that my 2012 F used reg non synthetic oil and that oil change cost around $80. I asked that they out full synthetic in there. Came up to $140. What kind they used, I'm not sure. def was 5w 30 though.

There was a noticeable difference in how the car responded and felt to me when I went from dealership oil ( no specification requested) to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30. It was $60 for 10 qts and $11 for oil filter. I paid nearly $200 which also included my 35,000 check over. I had other issues though because when I changed my oil again my oil filter cover was gone (maybe it wasn't there and I didn't notice) with no indication it was missing on my "world class" report and my oil drain plug loosened up when I put the closed end of the wrench in it. The weight of the wrench turned the bolt. I guess I should feel lucky that it was still there after 3900 miles.

I'll never go back to the dealership again unless it's something major or expensive and would be covered by extended warranty. I can only imagine how much fun it will be dealing with ext. warranty claims.

^^ Ditto, with my two previous Toyota products that used synthetic, i was fairly **** about researching exactly what they came with and was told "ENEOS" 5W-30.

My motivation was to acquire an actual Japanese oil product, but its probably overkill (i'm sure some of the other synthetics mentioned here are comparable) and i've also heard there is some relationship between Eneos and Mobile One.

They flat out lied to you.. Factory Fill is 5w30 conventional.

As a matter of fact the 2016 GS F & RC F still come with Factory Filled 5w30 conventional oil with a 5,000 mile OCI, for the 2UR-GSE.

True Story!!

There might be an issue with the weight, but I've been using Castrol in may cars for many years.

Guys - lets not over think this.. The consensus shows that as long as you're using a decent quality 5w30 oil, you'll be in good shape. Just avoid SuperTech like the plague

Why? It meets all the same specs as any other oil. I would never say "don't use (insert brand here)" unless I had clear evidence it fails to meet the minimum standards for modern engines. Since I don't see others in this thread with any evidence whatsoever regarding the performance of their oil (see Official Blackstone UOA thread for actual data), I take all these recommendations as "it feels good to me" not "my expert opinion backed with hard data shows..."
