I've found downshifts in the car to be surprisingly slow on occasion. Any kind of multi-gear shift as well.
Noticed this as well during normal driving, but once you are driving it hard and you're on the brakes while clicking the downshift paddle, it responds almost instantaneous. It's like the computer senses you're about to enter a corner so it sharpens up response.
I agree with this but only at low RPMs. At high RPMs the response is pretty quick.
Even full throttle up at redline mine is slow to react. To me you should never have to anticipate the shift point and pull it early, it should be instant, when you want it. I may be living in an ideal world but other manufacturers, Porsche PDK, seem to get this right.

When I'm driving hard, the shifts are practically instantaneous every time. Not sure why yours aren't

Hmm, we either we have differing definitions of instantaneous or somehow the programming in our cars differs. What years is your F? (Oh, see you have an '08, well throws that theory out the window as you would not expect Lexus to "slow" the shifts over time.) Maybe programming changes over time?

I have to agree with you on this point. I've driven Porsche PDKs, and their shifts are instantaneous with a flip of the paddle. The F seems to have a slight delay from paddle flip to gear shift.
