Air Bag Recall?
#166
My 2012 doesn't show a recall when I run my vin on their website. But all model ISF's are now part of the airbag recall, but the newer models were just recently added to the list, so it's going to take time. And as others have mentioned, the model year and your location is going to play a role in how soon it will get done.

Take this with a grain of salt as it's based on my memory from reading about why the airbags were being recalled.
The propellant for the airbags can degrade with severe heat and cause moisture that eventually eats away at the metal casing containing the airbag, this is where the metal shards can come from if the airbag is activated. The level of degradation is exasperated depending on the age of the propellant and by extension the vehicle, and by the region where the vehicle is stored, ie the further south you are to hotter climates the more degradation has occurred. And the corollary is if you're more north, then the weather tends to be a bit more mild and less degradation "should" have occurred.
Recently I believe all ISF's have now been included in the airbag recall, but again it's based on age of the vehicle and region. So while my 2014 will be included in the recall, it's not considered a priority until the earlier models have been completed, though I plan on arguing my case to the dealership when I go in for the next service.

Very ominous. But as previously mentioned, the newer, and milder climate vehicles need not be concerned about safety for a while. For example my area (Midwest) is in the 10 year range for degradation (meaning 2024 for me). Might start getting worried if it is 2022 and I still don't have a new airbag.

I got my car back the other day. Now at times when it's idling at a stop light or sitting in park I can hear a fluttering sound in the dash. It appears to be coming from just above the radio but I can hear it near the steering wheel and at the glove box. It doesn't do it all the time but it didn't do it at all before the recall. I was lucky enough to not have my dashboard messed up in the process like others had happen to them. My tech told me he only pulled the radio and glove box out and didn't have to remove the dashboard to do the recall. A friend of mine who also has an F that had the recall done at the same dealership is having the same issue. He hasn't had time to go back and have them look into it but had them note his account so it's been documented when he can bring it back in. Anyone else have any issues when they got theirs back?
