Which setup for better handling F 255/35/19F with 275R or 285R
Ok first some details my f currently has stock suspension withI/H/E will be adding RR racing tune and intake so hp and tq increase over stock, will also be adding RRR USRS LCA. I have swift swings but may hold off on installing them until I Change OEM shocks to Bilstein B6.
My F is DD with very occasion track session, my commute consists of some nice twisty and some nice straight aways. I work 4pm to 12mid some times later so I get to push the car nightly due to lack of traffic.
So I'm looking for the best summer tire setup, I'm going with 255/35/19 F but unsure of best Rear tire size 275/30/19 or 285/30/19. I'm looking to minimize understeer but maximize handling characteristics opinion guys.

I just upgraded to 245/35 fronts and 275/30 rears in Michelin PSS. I have much much less understeer, but I can't say none because I don't have any suspension upgrades and am only on lowering springs.

I'm looking at several different tire manufacturers I'll post up 5 different tire specs that I'm thinking about purchasing from PSS at the top of the list down to Sumitomo at the lower price range all are max performance tires. And a side note I commute to New York City everyday the roads are pretty bad, and have a tendency to chew up your tires so that's also another consideration as well.
I'm looking at several different tire manufacturers I'll post up 5 different tire specs that I'm thinking about purchasing from PSS at the top of the list down to Sumitomo at the lower price range all are max performance tires. And a side note I commute to New York City everyday the roads are pretty bad, and have a tendency to chew up your tires so that's also another consideration as well.

Ok, stock 2011 wheels are 19X8 and 19X9. When I had those, I ran 245/35/19 in front and 285/30/19 in back. That setup worked fine for me, although I was over the limit as far as manufacturer's recommendations were concerned for the rear. As I said that setup worked fine for me and for some others on this forum. One of the forum members drove a few blocks with that setup and hated it.
Most members of this forum with stock '08 thru '11 wheels, with oversize tires, run Michelin PSS in the 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 size. The 285/30/19 size is not made for the PSS.
I ran the Bridgestone S-04 and luv that tire. I'm running them now on my RCF wheels.
I've had experience with the Continental DW, and can not recommend it. The sidewalls are flexible and after a few thousand miles the tire (mine) developed a terrible rumble and I had to discard them.

My current all season tires are 245/35/19F 285/30/19R so I that 285R setup works on a factory rim. So my question Lou is which is better setup to minimize understeer? I understand You seem to have had success with you're current setup. Do you know of any other members that have 255/35/19F with 275/30/19R set up on their ISF and what has been their feedback regarding that tire combination

Any downside to 275/35 as oppose to 30? The size is at 102 percent with the 35, and 98 with the 30. Just curious day to day have you noticed any issues?

You want to be as close to 26" as possible which is OEM wheel size. 30 will typically put you either right at 26" or just under 26" where as 35 will put you over 26 inches. No 2 tire manufacturers are alike 1 companies may have 30mm at 25.8 inches another might be 26 inhes right on the DOT so you have to go on a case-by-case study and research what there particular tire sizes are.
Going over the 26 inches will typically give you more of a negative impact and your ride quality and driving characteristics, ie in current speed, clearance, in current distance, possibly heavier tire over oem, etc. I rather be tad under than over just my opinion.

I have stock 08 wheels. I have tried the 255/35 and 275/30 and I can honestly say it does not handle well. It handles like a boat and very scary doing high speed cornering. The best overall for stock 19x8 and 19x9 is the factory recommended size. Right now, I'm am on enkei pf01 18x9.5 square set up and it does handle VERY well. All 4 tires are 275/35 but I'm on direzza zii tires. Way better tire in the performance category.

I use my F as DD would there the any benefit to a square setup on a daily driver street driven car verses going a typical staggered fitment what are the pros and cons.
