Default How do you cruise with the windows open?!?!

Am I crazy or is it nearly impossible to figure out a window position that gives a good open air driving experience??

It seems that no matter what position the windows are in, the air is either blowing nearly directly in your face, or if both front windows are open, you get the massive Donald Trump blow over from a crosswind!

Seems to be "ok" if you have just drivers window down and then crack the rear drivers to dissipate the air flow. But, open that passenger window and all bets are off. Seems to be no way to get a good, comfortable road breeze. Add in the sunroof and it is even harder.

Not to mention, the other day I was messing around trying to get the windows open optimally and at one point I had some combination open that created such massive resonance I thought it was going to rip the headliner out!!

Is it possible to cruise in comfort with the windows open?? If so, how?!?!

I hear ya.. I've been driving a 2nd gen IS since 2006, and they seem to have some odd air flow.. At anything but low speeds, it's too windy/loud to cruise with the windows down.. My track day videos sound terrible when the camera is mounted between the seats because "windows down" is typically required. The wind often drowns out the sound of the car.

I open both front windows the same amount. it's hard to explain how much, but I drop them a couple inches until the top of the glass is at the level of the front corner of the window behind the tweeter.

I often do the same.. Any more than that & I can barely hear the stereo!

Two things I still love about my 04 G Coupe is that the wind is always perfect, and the ledge on the drivers window is like 3 inches wide and flat for resting your arm! Brilliant!

I either have mine all the way down or at just a hair below the bottom of the rain visor.

I find it very noisy from the air flow. I have Weathertech visors in the front. It helps but after the window is about 1/2 way down or more they do nothing.

As far as the audio is concerned, this helps tremendously-

I agree it can be annoying. I either crack the front two just a tad or leave em all up and open the sunroof.

What I do is tilt the sunroof up and crack the passenger side rear window about a couple inches and it smoothe out the air flow in the car.

Part of the problem is that low drag coefficient cars like the F are so optimized for aero efficiency with the windows closed, that any openings create major resonances.

That makes complete sense.

This is exactly how I cruise. I also lower the rear windows to about an inch higher than the fronts, and tilt the sunroof and retract the slide about a quarter way. I can cruise at 80-100 no problems. At least from my perspective.

Although my favorite open air cruiser has been my s2000 with the ap2 wind deflector. Talk about awesome driving experience.
