Well I was hoping this day would never come but it looks like I've fallen victim to the dreaded valley plate leak. I've been noticing my coolant level drop every two months or so but never found any signs. I keep a close eye behind the engine and down the transmission as that's where others have had their leak spill out. This morning I do my usual inspections and viola! Pink behind and underneath running down the transmission. The photo is from behind the front driver wheel, looking upwards at the transmission. I'll give the dealer a call and see what they say.. 82K kms (not miles) so I'm hoping powertrain warranty?

This is 100% covered by powertrain warranty, cause my valley plate leak was. US powertrain warranty ends at 6 years or 70k miles, whichever comes first. No idea on Canadian powertrain though. I also have a MY2011.

 

Our powertrain coverage is the same up here as well. I'll definitely be pushing for that as I believe I have less than a year left. I'm just worried since some guys paid out of pocket. I'd hate to tackle this one at home.

 

Man even the 2011 MY? I thought this was a 2008 MY issue?

 

You're thinking of the waterpump. That's mostly 2008s, although Ithink I've heard it affect some out years. I believe the valley plate leak happens specifically to our engine model.

Just wanted to update this thread. The valley plate leak is covered under powertrain, thankfully! I'm curious to know which sealant they used so I'll check the part number when I pickup the ride tomorrow. It's been at the dealer almost a week since they had to order parts.

The real question is what if it leaks again in say, 2-3 years?

 

There is nothing special about the RTV sealant, it was applied improperly during manufacturing and assembly.

just had mine done and noticed it was low again but the tech said it was an air bubble and to watch it. What a let down by Lexus. This should be a TSIB. Between this and the melting dash panels I feel like Lexus is slipping a little. The cars 15 years ago never had issues like this and if they did Lexus created a TSIB and it was fixed

 

Did the tech take pics showing you how much had leaked in your valley accumulation wise? Curious that's all....

 

Not necessarily. My IS300 had the melting dash issue. You would think a model like the F would be exempt from all these minor issues but hey, everything can't be perfect. Still love my F regardless!

 

Thanks, I referenced that link for my SA when I booked my appointment. Im glad to know the sealant itself should be fine. My invoice shows they used sealant #08826-00100 which should be specific to coolant. Joe-z made mention on the last page of the link above that the sealant was superceeded with #00295-00103. I'm also curious to know which works better or the same?

I do have photos of the leak but I'll post them tomorrow; broke my phone at work today :/

 

Yep mine just went in this week. Noticed the low coolant level and asked them to check and sure enough it was leaking at the valley plate...nothing major just a small leak but that's what warranty is for.

 

There is no small leaks....it gets trapped in the valley plate and cooks..then dries, then builds up. It then eventually starts trickling down the transmission tunnel........
