Default Is $2200 reasonable for new shocks?

Longo told us that we need new shocks on our 2008 IS-F (105,000 miles) and they want $2200 ($1000 in labor) to do it.

1. Is this a reasonable price?

2. Should we switch out the springs while we are at it?

I want to keep a comfortable ride as it is our DD.

You may want to read this thread:

For labor, I'd look elsewhere.

As far as coilovers, there is a number of threads here covering that. And a number of our sponsor's offer a coilover package for the ISF.

However, the springs are probably not worn, and if your happy with them, the Bilsteins should serve you well.

$1000 in labor really does seem quite high to me... I would maybe ask around at a few other shops.

Sounds right for a dealership to do it. Is this for 1, 2, 3, or 4 shocks ?

Your car is way past warranty. I suggest taking it to Tommy at Music Box, in El Monte (assuming you're close to the 626 area). Last time I checked he charges 200-300 for labor, and gets it done super fast. Anyone in SoCal can attest to the quality of his work.
I also suggest looking into Bilstein B6, which is the aftermarket replacement for the OEM struts. From what I heard it should provide for a more comfortable ride, and you can reuse the OEM springs. I believe it retains stock ride height, but not 100% sure.

For a 2008, I'd put that $2200 toward aftermarket parts (either shocks or a complete set of coilovers).. It's well known that the OEM suspension on early IS-Fs was one thing that needed improvement.

It was for 4 shocks.

Looks like I'm going to go this route: keep the springs and replace the shocks with Bilstein B6s. There's a separate front right and front left, but the two rears are the same right? Besides the four shocks, is there anything else I should be replacing, like mounts?

I use him for my IS-F, Maxima, and GT-R for almost the past decade. Though I have to admit, when he did the struts on my Maxima several years ago, he did not replace a broken mount, so it groaned quite a bit from that corner. That's why I was a bit hesitant to use him for another suspension job, but it looks like I'll use him again.

Yes. Unless the mounting hardware is broken, you should be golden

Let us know what you think of them.

Naw man if you paying 1k labor you just got rolled up. You could spend half that, get coilovers and do it yourself or with a friend for nothing

I had two local shops quote 6-7 hours of labor @$125ish per hour for swapping out my factory shocks and installing the Penske Coilovers.

i did the job myself in about 3 hours. Was much easier than I expected. Taking out the trunk liner seemed to be the hardest part... I was glad to do it myself and save the $$$. I used the cash saved to pay for the alignment.

$100 per corner should be the max you should be charged for labor. There are plenty of shops you can get it done for that. I would look at Bilsteins vs OEM set unless you can get some coilovers.
I would stay away from the dealer on this one.

on my 06 IS they wanted $700 for a single shock that was leaking. Bought entire F Sport shocks set for $700 and did it all myself, they were a massive upgrade over the stock ones. Only thing annoying about doing rear shocks in the 2IS is you have to nearly disassemble all the trim inside the trunk. Fronts are cake.
