Ok, so I am most likely going to get an RC F diff to throw into the rear of my car when I do the rear shocks. I contacted one of the the junkyards, and this is the response I got...has anyone had a similar experience when purchasing a part through car-parts.com?

ATTACHED IS A STATE TAX EXEMPT/WIRE TRANSFER FORM. FILL IN FORM
(YOUR STATE TAX ID # IN SECTION 3, COMPANY NAME & ADDRESS, PRINTED NAME & SIGNATURE WITH DATE SIGNED)
AND RETURN FORM. AT THE BOTTOM ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS TO GO TO YOUR BANK AND WIRE THE PAYMENT TO OUR
BANK, WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT (DEBIT) CARDS OR CHECKS. PLEASE HAVE BANK REFERENCE ORDER ***** WITH WIRE
TRANSFER.
THANKS
Does this seem a little sketchy, or normal operating procedure? I found their ebay store and they want $1000 more than what they have listed...but you can use a credit card.

DON'T DO IT!! This doesn't seem legit at all. When I last bought parts off of car-parts.com I was able to contact the junkyard directly, then I check google to make sure they were a legit junkyard, and then placed the order via credit care/paypal for added purchase protection. Never trust a place that is asking only for bank/wire transfer.

Contacted all 3 junk yards.

First one I emailed gave me that shady reply about wiring him money.

Second one I emailed twice but got no response yet.

Also waiting to hear from the third junkyard,.

Two of the three junkyards have terrible customer service yelp reviews.

Cash in hand...ready to pull trigger...no one available... : (

Default Finally...

Got ahold of an RCF diff. Will be getting the Figs bushings shortly.

Goal is to swap rear diff covers, and install it when doing rear shocks, and updating the JOEZ pass through exhaust tips.

Will document the process and let you guys know how it went.

Question: What gear oil are you guys using? Toyota gear oil with LSD additive? Aftermarket?

Get both figs bushings that go on the diff itself and the bushings that go in the subframe. As far as gear oil I went with Amsoil.

i didn’t have an RCF diff I had a 2014 ISF diff but I got the bushings for the side arms on the diff itself and the big bushings that go in the subframe that the diff hooks into. Go with the 400whp+ bushings. Night and day difference. Call mike from figs or nate they will help you out.

There is no need for special oil with the OEM Torsen. It doesn't have clutches so you don't need friction modifiers. Plain old GL-5 diff oil will be just fine.

I thought the manual calls out for both the IS F and the RC F (with non TVD):

“(with LSD - Limited Slip Differential)
Oil type and viscosity - Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LX 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent”

Isnt the LX rear diff oil GL-5 with a friction modifier? While the LT is just plain GL-5 gear oil?

Maybe I’m wrong?

There's no reason for a friction modifier in a Torsen spool. It's completely gear driven, so you want EP additives to make sure the gears last. Oils with friction modifiers are the exact opposite because they are there to help the clutches/synchros stick. I remember wasting a whole bunch of time with this 20 years ago on the Torsen in my Supra. I have since learned to just buy a good GL-5 oil and change it regularly.

For anyone that has installed or helped install a new rear diff on this car...any tips for removing it? The book calls out for something like 8.5+ hours for removal/install. I noticed in one of the removals that the tires, axles, and rear suspension were still installed. What were you able to bypass in the instructions to have such a quick turn around?

You won't need any additive for the Torsen. Toyota recommends their 75W85 GL-5 LX gear oil, but it is quite expensive. (The LT fluid should not be used with a Torsen). If going aftermarket, you should be fine with any quality 75W90 or 80W90 GL-5 gear oil.
