Track day wheel/tire combos - need ideas from y'all

Have you ever thought buying second hand on e-bay or auction sites like yahoo in Japan.
I know for sure wheels like you mention are really quite cheap and in some cases half the price of brand new.
Second hand sounds like you for wheels and spend your money on rubber would that be another option you would consider?

Fair enough man I understand buying new can be quite expensive.

I've been looking but haven't found used wheels with the right sizes/offsets. But I think used would definitely get me in my price range. What about Work Emotion wheels? Their website isn't incredibly helpful about strength/weight. They can be had on ebay for $1750 if I stretch my budget.
Are you after 18 or 19' rims?
I'm a Rays guy myself and have had 5 different sets for my Supra so in that regard I'm a little biased.

I'd prefer 19" for the looks, but i can be talked into 18" due to cheaper prices and wider tire selection.

Your title is a little misleading because you say you want track day wheels which to me implies you want them just for the track but you care so much about the looks and sizing. If you prefer aesthetics over function then you should priorities that over track functionality. If you truly want track dedicated wheels then 18s would be my choice but if you want wheels to upgrade over stock then use the stock wheels for track day wheels and get something else for everyday driving.
