How much did those run you? The thought of crazy normal service items have always kept me away from GTR's.

The rotors and pads were about $1200 they are better than OEM and they are simple enough to do yourself or you can pay a local shop to do it and it's inexpensive

so many people just hear the worst case scenario when it comes to pricing and go with that without considering other options

I have heard GTRs are super expensive to track due to consumables (tires, brakes, etc). I agree though, there are ways to save a buck on maintenance. ISF brakes from the dealer cost a lot, but getting OEM parts from other sources reduces the price significantly.

I’m with you on that. I have a pair but I’m just too worried it’ll be too loud and the rear of the car will be covered in soot, the car already does that with stock dp’s. Did you tune with Cobb or ecutek?

Why would a GTR be super expensive in terms of tires and brakes compared to any other similar car?

I guess you would have to define "similar car". Having 335 tires out back and 275's up front makes for an expensive tire job...especially when you run quality tires such as the MP4. Front brakes alone will run you a grand... if you do them yourself. Fluid changes are more complex than most cars so if you dont do them yourself (you should fill comfortable working on cars if your going to attempt to change all the fluids) and you pay someone to do it, it will run you about $1200. So yeah, I guess you would have to define "similar cars".

Maintenance is a lot on these cars (to me), that’s no secret. But compared to its competition, it’s considerably less, all relative. Rotors aren’t cheap, tires aren’t cheap, and transmission fluid/service every 16k on the older cars is over 1k a pop. I also suck through gas in it getting no better than 16mpg. It’s better as a weekend car so you’re not racking up the mileage and wearing out the replaceables so often.

expensive to track. Consumables includes fluids. GTRs are heavy and fast, so they will eat tires and brakes faster than many lighter cars. Add to that more expensive replacements and it makes sense that it is one of the more expensive cars to track.
