Sounds good! Just in case it wasn't obvious (common sense isn't always so common), make sure after you ad the e85, you fill the rest of the tank up all the way with premium unleaded. Good luck and let us know what you think.

Oh, believe me, I know it's not haha. I'm of course going to fill it up the rest of the way with 93. Just don't want to start with 3 and get a lean code or something. From what I gather, everything should be fine.

Another thing I don't think anyone has mentioned and is important to keep in mind. By law, a pump listed as E85 can range anywhere from 51 to 83% ethanol content.

Thanks for bringing this up. It should be listed on the pump. I used a station that guaranteed a higher rating when I ran e30. I think it was speedway around here that had 55%, so I didn’t use them.

For sure most states vary with their E85 content based on the business and what they decide to carry year round. The majority of E-85 pumps here in the metro area are labeled at 70% ethanol so I do my calculations with 91 premium E10 with E70 when I do my blending

Started blending this weekend (4gals E85). I dont, and wont, have dyno numbers, but the engine does sound "smoother" at higher RPMs.
Does the butt dyno say it is faster... meh, it feels peppier.

Let me know what the outcome of that is. I only started with 2.25 gallons of E85. Every fill up I was planning to go up in quarter gallon increments until about 3.5/4 gallons. Just in case I hit a lean condition it won't be THAT lean.

You should be monitoring A/F with an OBDII reader. The first O2 sensor in the exhaust is a wideband sensor so you can read A/F directly and see if you're running lean. It's pretty unlikely for the most part. The ECM will adjust up to +/-20% fuel to compensate for a wide range of possible problems (bad gas, air leak, cracked hose, etc.) and the factory targets running rich under load anyway (they depend on the cats to clean up the exhaust) because it keeps the cats hot, and reduces warranty claims for engines blown by running too lean. It's also why fuel dilution in our oil is common. The biggest issue with running alcohol based fuels like E85 is the variability of what you get at the pump. If you don't have a sensor to tell the ECM what the blend is as all the flex fuel systems do, you really don't know what you just put in your tank, you can only assume, which is why I say you should be monitoring A/F ratio.

Plug for the Grom vline, it works great for monitoring lambda while driving. This past week I put in 5gal of e85 from stripes which the mustang boys test regularly at 80%+ and I still saw lambda at .82-.85 during WOT. I don't think the sensor reads below the .82 mark, or at least it does not with my scanner/obd software.

I do plan on adding a bluetooth flex fuel sensor if I continue to run that heavy of a blend.

Summer blends are in full effect in Chicago. My few stations I go to are testing E85-E90 consistently.

I have been running 5.5 gallons mixed with 93. Finally got my KCLV up to 23.5

I am using the innovate motorsports gauge it reads the e85 content very accurately. The sensor goes inline on the fuel line and monitors it real-time. It works great

So...how has blending been going for the newer people? I was without my car for a month and a half due to an accident at a car wash...but intend to get back into blending because I can definitely tell there was more power when I was blending.

I have been blending 2-3 gallons of e85 with 91 octane on my ISF for 5 years now. I am FBO and have no issues. My KCLV low is currently at 24.3 and other one over 3k RPM is at 24.1. Been blending since I started this thread 👍

For sure it's been 5 years this July that I've been blending as well and wouldn't run the car without it😎🏁

Good to hear. I think I'm going to run 5.5 gallons and see what the AFR does. If it gets close to 15/15.5 I'll go lower. 4 gallons has been steady 14.3~ for me.
