Looks like I'm taking the ISF to work tomorrow. Gas station across the street has E85

Shoot can't beat that convenience! Curious as to what the price for E85 is down there?

I will also start blending on my next fill up. I will advice against doing low rpm 8th gear pulls and do regular 4 th gear pulls though. I did this a couple of times until i saw an article and youtube video explaining why this is actually bad for the longevity and health of the engine.

I live in the Houston area and was wondering what the best way to start off would be? I have an aftermarket intake and exhaust, no tune or headers. What mix or type should be used. I always fill up with shell 93. Any advice would be awesome!

The max I have tried is 30% I imagine you can go higher but maybe eventually you will get a lean condition.

I can see many haven't blended before. It is nerve racking when you first pump... Both ways of calculating works during fill up, but i have personally preferred this method. Put in lets say 12 gallons. Take 12 x .3 (30%)= 3.6 gal of e85. Than 12 - 3.6= 8.4 gal of 91. This gives you an exact e30 blend everytime. Then thereafter just guestimate how much you can squeeze in when topping off from various levels in the tank without going over. Blackjack

does this compensate for the 10% ethanol already in 91/93 pump?

No, its a crapshoot on how much they put in 91/93. Says "up to" 10% ethanol added. If you wanted to play it safe... do a 20% blend?

Thanks for posting this.

Based on your road dyno - those gains are surprisingly minuscule.

This is interesting - I guess if your local fuel is not great (or if you are at altitude), the ECU would likely pull some timing. I would think that running E30 in that situation would mitigate the pulled timing (and therefore add power). Were you able to log KC values before and after the switch?

I don't have E85 near me so I've been experimenting with torco. I add around 12-16oz every 3-4 tanks and my kclv has stayed at or above 22. I usually fill up around 1/4 tank. I've seen my kclv drop to between 19-20.5 without adding anything for a month or so.

Thanks for posting! Looks like you gained some TQ, but curious were you tuned at the time of this dyno graph?

I use an E85 calculator that takes into effect the 10% ethanol on the pump gas and spits out the blended octane. But like I said earlier your ratio will vary by possibly up to 5% based on blends and what's in the pump gas to begin with and the E85, which can be as low as E70 or up to E85, so it's not an exact science but the variability won't hurt anything between 30-35% which is where I've been with my F.

Correct, as for altitude I think it helps us up here at the thinner air as opposed to you guys who are closer to sea level, it plays a huge part apparently in the KCLV numbers based on oxygen content available for the knock sensors. The E85 has mitigated that downside for us and allowed more timing! Although I think the E85 does help even at sea level, although I think at altitude it helps us a little bit more based on our handicap.

Yea anything to help out with the octane will help! I've used Torco in the past with some forced induction vehicles.

😂😂😂 lmao I can assure you this is not from blending. I took a 2-3 second exposure playing with my camera to catch the swing of the blue needles on start up, along with every other check light too
