Is the IS-F coming back?
Been a long time since I last posted on this site. I really loved by old IS250 and after owning a couple cars since then, I feel I need to get back into one and currently looking at gently used Fs now, but was curious to know if Lexus plans on reviving the IS-F any time soon? The 2 door RC is of no use for me these days.

Back in 2007 San Francisco International Autoshow they showcased an IS430, which was an IS300 with the 4.3L V8 power plant.
The IS-F was revealed to the world through its small production numbers, it is through that very same show I mentioned above, that I was invited to test drive the 2008 IS-F in Fontana International Raceway.
Hard to tell if the car will make a return or not. Engine wise the 5.0 continues to carry over with power increases through higher compression and other tricks.
IS-F always been rated at 416 bhp and 371 lbs-ft. (first generation 5.0)
RC-F and GS-F get a bump in power, 467 bhp and 389 lbs-ft. (second generation 5.0)
The LC500 is rumored to have another slight bump in power.
I personally love the engine, it loves RPM and provides vast power when needed. It also responds well to bolt-ons.
Why don't you find a clean 2013 or a 2014 IS-F? Hard to come by but not impossible.

Toyota is pretty tight lipped about what and when they will do.

hard to imagine the 4.3 in an is, had an LS for 2 years and while it's a fantastic and really smooth engine it doesn't seem suited to a small car, very slow to rev and more suited to highway cruising.

I think the story was that 4.3 was the original motor that was shoehorned into the is chassis by the "skunkworks" team. Even if it was just a year later that the 5.0 made the debut, it's probably all they had at the time. And it's always better to under promise...

Everything about the IS-F was a secret at the time. Nobody knew of the car or the F-Performance Group or anything.
The Lexus Representative said there is something coming out in April 2008 and he can take down my name and number and call me. I gave him all the info and didn't make anything of that.
Later that April I got a call and was invited to test drive the mysterious car. I thought I will just go over to the dealership and test drive it, I soon found out otherwise.
"It's a track event, you're first on the waiting list, but you need to get a flight down here on Friday afternoon. Event starts Saturday morning".
I got a flight booked and told my boss I need to leave early since I'm going out of town. Friday I left work at 3 PM with my suitcase (was working in San Francisco at a time), and flew down to Orange County.
The rest is history, here we are 9 years later talking about it.
