News to me as well. I just replaced my brakes and I reused the springs, bridge bolt, and pins. I only replaced the shims. I hope I dont run into any issues

I think some pads have slightly different sized backing plates and perhaps If you run MFG X pads for a few years and then replace with MFG Y, whose pad backings are marginally smaller, that it would be good to replace the parts to keep the new pads snug.
I remember in the past my mechanic putting Hawk pads on my G and saying they were REALLY snug within the caliper.
I got my pins ins and clips in, so, should have some more info in a couple weeks.
