Default ISF transmission whine?

Hello guys,

First of all I’d like to thank everybody for the tons of useful info that has saved me massive amount of money.
Best Lexus site / community hands down.

My 2008 ISF developed a transmission-like whine:

Could you please help me identify it? Could it be a bad transmission?

I found in the forum this thread:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...eed-whine.html

However as the noise is absent in neutral (in my case) it seems to me unlikely to be the belt tensioner.

Thank you in advance for any help

Yup !! Tensioner. I just had mine done for the second time. I had the noise and the belt slip noise. It's a cheap fix and will make your car sound like anLexus and not a 98 Ford Explorer lol

Thanx a lot! What a relief - I was freaking out about a possible transmission problem.

The transmission does make it's own noise. Sounds like a weak power steering pump if you listen to the car with no distractions.

I changed out the tensioner last summer right after I started that thread and the whining sound is still there but not as pronounced. Even though the sound still bothers me a little when I'm actually listening for it, I've come to the conclusion that it's pretty normal. 99% of the time I have the stereo on and never hear it anyway.
