I was under the assumption the AC shuts off once you went over certain amount of throttle/rpm? Correct me if I'm wrong

Just read about a system that uses the A/C to cool the inlet temperature as a extra capable intercooler!

Yep - the Dodge Demon uses it. AC cools intake charge...

Yeah I don't think this is big news for some. I've seen on other platforms that have done AC delete to maximize HP and shed unnecessary weight. I would think for track builds and racing, but I wouldn't sacrifice my ac on a daily driver

Interesting, that's something I've always heard people talk about was turning off the AC to get every last bit of power possible when racing.

Good to know. Always wandered about this myself and read many posts but hard to seperate fact from fiction. Good to see before and afters to confirm it.

Problem is like he mentioned, as our cars have decent HP, its easy to forget to turn it off for a quick blast from the lights etc as its still quick :-)

Pity it didnt have a cut out like some cars on WOT to disregard forgetting to do it manually.

The way the unit in all the 2IS works isn't like the old school A/C units. It's a variable displacement compressor, so it actually modulates the amount of power it uses based on thermal load as calculated by the A/C ECU. Sure, turning it off guarantees minimal load, but this system is nothing like the old school systems, and it definitely is smart enough to minimize the load at WOT. Even the Supra, as old as it is, turns off the compressor at WOT automatically, but it has the old school clutch system where ours have no clutch.

I got my *** handed to me in the 2IS forums early on because I didn't do my homework about the air conditioning system. Much like the folks who've never seen electric power assisted steering and post about power steering noises in the 2IS, I assumed the 2IS had a conventional compressor and clutch setup, and someone posted about the variable displacement compressors. Needless to say, I felt pretty dumb, so I learned about them. I already understood systems designed to move heat from one place to another from my work in cryogenic gas separation and high vacuum systems, so it was just an adjustment.
