So about a year and a half ago after I got my car I had the hood repainted because it was a mess with rock chips. Yesterday as I was washing my car I noticed this square section of clear coat that peeled right off. I took the car to the body shop and they said they're going to fix it under warranty. I do use a pressure washer when washing the car but it's not a powerful enough pressure washer that can take paint off. I use the softest tip attachment and always keep it at least 2 feet from the paint at all times. I understand respray is nowhere near a factory paint job but I still feel like it should be able to hold up against this method of washing especially with keeping it a couple feet from the paint. So could this have been a fluke thing or should I be more careful in general now? I've had work done from this body shop before on several of our cars and they always do great work and never have problems like this.
That's annoying but your panel shop should look after you, also a good spray job can be better than factory just depends on how good the shop is and how much money.
I wouldn't say it was bad prep. If it were bad prep, the color would be peeling too since OP stated the entire hood was resprayed. Gunnak it up to the clear wasn't mixed properly.
Unfortunately not all body shops/painters are created equal... when I bought my ISF the dealer had put on a Bayson R front lip to help hide some damage on the bumper from the previous owner running into parking blocks or something. They told me the lip was brand new and just painted/installed a week or so prior to me purchasing the car.
When I got the car home, after a 3 hour drive, I wanted to give her a nice bath... my Master Blaster air blower stripped the paint right off of this lip!! What a joke.....
^^ that is what bad prep looks like. Several things could have happened to make the paint flake off like that. The lip wasn't scuffed enough, wasn't cleaned correctly, needed to be primed first, or flex additive wasn't mixed in with the paint and clear.

Right... my point being that there are plenty of things that can go wrong with bodyshop work. There are many great painters out there, but it seems like there are 10x as many mediocre painters out there.
I sent that video to the sales manager.... never heard from them again. They didn't care. I bought the car and they could care less what happened afterwards. (Toyota of Naperville, IL)
I didn't really mind anyways since I wanted to go with the Tom's kit.... was pretty comical how bad the prep work was.
