Read again, it’s basically up to the tire shops manager/supervisors discretion. I’m a 20 year employee and have worked at 4 different warehouses and never had an issue. The tire has to fit within a certain parameter that is set up with Costcos ordering system. I was told this by the current tire shop manager in San Antonio. The actual wording doesn’t mean a whole lot with that policy. Some of the stuff I’ve seen in Texas would never fly in California warehouses where I’m from.

Costco will only install tires authorized for a specific vehicle.
Sounds pretty iron clad to me. There have been posts on this forum that are at odds with what you are saying. I've never had an experience. I shop at Costco, but would NEVER buy anything automotive from them.

Anyway, I'm done arguing. You've had positive experiences, others have not. The way I read it, Costco's printed policy says NO.

Im not trying to argue. I’m relaying what my actual tire shop manager is telling me. The tire authorization isn’t specific to oem Lexus recommendations it’s specific to tolerances that Costco deams acceptable. Warehouses vary from building to building according to how THEY want to proceed with allowing it. That particular warehouses may have a ton of complaints in the tire shop and choose to be extremely strict with that. I see it everyday in other departments. I suggest that anyone looking to buy tires from Costco that gets denied to up size from OEM check with other local Costcos.

^^ which is why I said "more than likely", and you said I was wrong. So what happens if 1 manager decides it's "OK" at his discretion but not another or corporate doesn't agree with it when something goes wrong? Sounds like some inconsistency will lead to bad results for the average customer, or someone that doesn't work for Costco.

Well if there is one thing Costco does well it’s customer service. If they put tires on your car no matter what the size they’ll stand behind it.
