Default Big leak of coolant under my 2008 ISF / tranny is dead

Hello, I'm from France so apologize for the spelling mistakes ...

I took a few weeks ago my 2008 LEXUS ISF to an independent mechanic I know to install the USRS kit, bleed the brake fluid, repaint the front bumper, the bonnet and the 4 wheels.

I got my car back on Friday, February 9, I traveled 50 km to go home and everything was ok. The next afternoon, I drove 20 km and back in my garage I see a big leak of coolant and a big puddle under the car! The big problem is that the liquid is a little greasy and mixed with oil.

With a friend we found the origin of the leak: When I start the car, after 3 seconds, the big engine coolant supply hose becomes hard and the coolant leaks through the hose too much full right next to the coolant reservoir cap.

The coolant in the tank has a milk chocolate color.

What is your diagnosis? Do you think this is related to the passage of the car at the independent mechanic or is it a bad coincidence? I will contact my car mechanic tomorrow to discuss it.

Sounds like a blown head gasket. Weird I've never heard of these cars having that problem .

I can't imagine it would be from something the mechanic did unless he took it for a joy ride and beat the living crap out of it. I do agree with the assessment above though... Sounds like a possible blown head gasket. Sorry man... that sucks.

curious to know if this would result from not having enough coolant in the tank then car overheating on you before this happened? coolant leak possibly from valley plate issue, have you noticed any of these symptoms beforehand

That looks like transmission fluid split tank in the radiator??

My bet is the trans-cooler line in the bottom of the radiator broke, and is now pumping trans fluid into the radiator at pressure.

On the ISF the trans cooler is a separate heat exchanger and not part of the radiator. IIRC

If it is a blown headgasket I would expect you might be able to see some blue smoke.

Not true. There is an internal heat exchanger in the lower radiator tank without any question at all. Swap a radiator and you'll see it right away.

And what does the engine oil look like?

If the engine oil is nasty milkshake white, now you have a big problem like a headgasket. The thing is, that stain in the coolant reservoir didn't happen over night. Thats been brewing for a while.

If you get lucky, maybe the heat exchanger in the radiator failed and you drop in a new radiator and begin the process of flushing the transmission fluid multiple times and you're OK?

So you bought this and have a total of 80km on it? Who did you buy it from and what warranty does it have if any?

** Don't drive this car!!! It needs all of the fluids checked!

The IS-350 and 250 have an external heat exchanger right at the trans on the right side.

How does the inside of your oil filler cap look? As mentioned, if you have a nasty mayonnaise like funk on the inside, probably a head gasket. Odd if it is given I’ve never seen or heard of one failing before.....

Post up a photo of the inside of your oil cap.

Hope you get this figured out mate.

Cheers,

Pete
