Curious now, does anyone know what sort of rear diff my 07 IS250 has? Wasn't able to find this info on Google.

Also an oil recommendation for that type would be amazing, because I want to change mine out soon.

It has an open differential. Any GL5 oil will be fine.

It was meant for the guy with the stock Torsen. It just didn't make sense to put friction modifiers in a Torsen diff.

Yeah, on my V160 I'm running Toyota Type 4 fluid. Best alternative compared to anything else on the market.

Back to the diff, I'm running Amsoil's synthetic severe gear oil, 75W-90.

Not sure if it's my 265's from a 255, but smashing the throttle to pull a u turn drift ends up in my inner tire spinning every time until I hit 2nd gear and it'll swing out. I swear new diff fluid w/o friction modifiers should be affecting it.

Default Lexus service

South Bay Lexus just changed my diff fluid for $99. They said they have lowered service prices to be more competitive with independent shops.

Dealers often just stock generic gear oil. You're not going to get a diff oil change with the factory 75W85 GL-5 LT or LX fluid for $99.

Not that it's a big problem, per se, just don't expect a factory fluid fill for that low of a price.

Whats your take Jeff?? Should us RWD owners be changing our diff fluid?

I'm at 103k and I seriously doubt its every been changed.. seems like a worthwhile preventative measure..

I just did my 60k maintenance and used Motul Gear 300 75w-90 for the rear diff.

If I'm not mistaken, I think rear diff fluid change is every 60k miles. I did it when I bought my ISF because there was nowhere in the service records it ever being done and the car had 90k miles when I bought mine

Interesting on the friction modifiers if they are needed for Torsen diffs or not?🤔......Amsoil's severe gear oil 75W-90 doesn't list any friction modifiers in the specs?

Just to verify a Torsen LSD does not have any clutches correct, and only has gears so it doesn't need a gear oil with any friction modifiers correct?

That’s correct, friction modifiers are for clutch type LSD’s. A torsen diff has gears only.

With the exception being the OS Giken spool. Use Giken's stupid expensive oil, or one of the recommended oils from their list and you need do nothing with friction modifiers. Here are the current alternatives:

Motul Gear Competition FF 75W140 - (FWD Transaxle, AWD, and RWD Applications)
Motul 300 75W90 N/S - (FWD Transaxle, RWD)

That's correct, I have the OS250R gear oil on mine since I have an OS Giken LSD.

Although Torsen® themselves always refer to the OEM manual oil specifications, friction modifiers are used in Torsen LSD application / units to prevent chatter, moan, groan, hum, audible noise, etc..

https://torsen.com/tbr-lube-friction-modifier/

Many modifiers / additives are sold specifically for Torsen units, which I would only use or add if I were using a regular basic gear oil..

The OEM specific LSD gear oil, like Toyota's is specially formulated. (Likely with a modifier)
