Bake Headlights
Sorry if this has been posted, but I can't find it anywhere. Has anyone posted a DIY for baking the headlights? I purchased a set of headlights that are already painted inside, but somehow the corner that is closest to the windshield broke. I want to take the lenses off my original lights and put them on these blacked out assemblies or maybe just black out my original ones. If there's no DIY thread, can someone give me a step-by-step on how to remove the lenses and reseal them? Thanks in advance.

Unscrew screws that mate the housing to lamp lense. Bake headlight in over at 250 for 24.5 minutes. Pry slowly and take apart. Add more butyl around the new lense crevices (assuming they are taken apart as described as well). Apply lense to housing and bake at 250 for 24.58 minutes. Clamp the lense to housing on all sides. Screw srcews back in. And voila... You did a headlamp mod (no matter how successful or unsuccessful your attempt was).

I don't have the ***** to do this on mine headlights cost around a grand EACH, I would cry if I screwed something up, one day they'll be hazed and ugly yellow and maybe that day I venture on this

Do not leave in extreme heat for an extended period of time
The key to this whole opening up the headlight housings thing is just preheat the oven to 200-220deg and all you have to do is make sure you don't leave the headlights in for too long while waiting for the adhesive to soften.. 10 times better off taking them out and putting them back in every 4-6 mins to make sure that you're not damaging anything rather than throwing them in at 200° and checking on them 20 minutes later to find a puddle of plastic.. as long as you don't leave them in for too long you'd be surprised at how much heat for an extended period of time it really takes to permanently damage the housing lol and yes Ive learned from my mistakes in the past
