Reading reviews, it might be rebranded super tech oil. Which can be bought cheaper at Walmart.

The MR2 gets Valvoline 10W-30 VR1 Racing Motor Oil and Mobile 1 filter.
You've gotta watch this video on FRAM filters. The absolute worst..

Jump to the 2:40 and 6:25 mark for fram highlights. I used to use frams on my civic but never again.

I'm using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 when it's on sale and K&N filters.

Most of the reasons FRAM filters are not so great do not apply to this platform. We only replace the filter element, not the whole cartridge.

I hate these videos because they always show the older FRAM design. All the filters come with a silicone anti drain back valve which is orange and no longer the black ones. In this vehicle, I'm sure the TG filters will do fine. Hell, most vehicles will do fine with either tier FRAM filter. I remember at one point K&N and Mobil 1 filters were both made by Champion Labs and the only reason K&N cost more is because of the K&N repackage and they weld a hex head on the bottom for easy removal. Filter media was exactly the same.

Truth and honesty, you'll never know which oil and filter is good for your vehicles unless you do a UOA and dissection of your oil filter which most people don't ever do.

This! I'm totally on board with this configuration, I just switched to it last fall. Oil gets to temp about 30% faster than Mobil 1.
