That indicates more friction and heat.

Renewable Lubricants PCMO SHP. Best wear numbers I've ever seen. See the Blackstone thread in the GS F forum for details.

That's what I'm using ^^^^^^^ except it's the HDMO low ash version, but based on the updated testing of RAT 540 blog seems like the PCMO version is a better oil for some odd reason

I ran the HDMO and stopped because Rat showed thermal breakdown starting at 245F where PCMO starts at 275F. I've seen 275F at the track, and when you need lubrication the most is when temperatures are highest, so PCMO for me in 5 gallon buckets please.

Agreed!.......what did you do with the rest of your HDMO oil that you bought? Didn't you say you bought a 5 gallon bucket?

I’m on my first fill of this on the IS-F. Been running it in my GX460 and LX570 for about 2 years. Wish it was more readily available but my understanding is that they’re working on building up their distributor network.

I used it all. The GS F gets a lot of mileage, and I am choosing to stick to the OEM 5k mile OCI with it.

Hi all,

Im also due for an oil change soon, and have gone through the replies in this post. A few brands mentioned but the common theme i see is most are using 5w-30. Ive always used 5w-30, mostly Mobil 1.

However for the last yr or so, on cold start up every now and then my engine has the infamous ticking noise. I thought it was my headers, got PPE's but the noise is still there (and my OEM headers was fine lol). Car still runs great.

So, I have heard that with the older ISFs with higher kms (thats mine), that they can benefit running 10w-30 and can help reduce or stop the ticking noise.

Im Sydney based, car is always garaged, winters get to single digit temps and summer about 30-35 celcius so i wouldnt describe the temps as extreme

I sold the F 2 days ago. Still running strong with no tick. I plan to continue using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10W30 and WIX filters on my new LC

Lou,

How long did it take to sell? Seems like it went pretty quick!

If you hear a random ticking on start up, see this video for details including the fix:

Lou - the oil you chose has nothing to do with this problem. QSUD is a good oil, but I would never run 10W anything these days. Way too thick when cold. Looking at the video and seeing the Lexus TSB for the problem clearly indicates this problem isn't rare or oil brand/quality/weight related (they don't have the same oil formulations in Europe), it's a problem with the design of the cam chain tensioner on the left bank only. Probably a lot like many other TSBs - small variance from Lexus spec caused a problem on some units, but not all. Your's clearly wasn't affected. Mine is, and so are others around the globe when you look at the results in the comments to this video.
