This is just latest fade that started few yrs ago that certain high hp tuned cars did naturally. Now a few automakers are building into there cars like piped in fake engine noises. When I go to car meets and hear so many of these 20 yr olds with there tubro cars with two step rev limiters most are doing it purely for sound. If your at track doing 1/4 mile racing ok i get its anti lag purpose. But on the street it sounds like **** as does popcorn B.S. I'm with Lance back in day that was sign of badly running car or bike. It's becoming more about show then go.

Your setup must sound amazing already. Ive got PPE and an Xforce (poor mans choices vs yours lol) and mine gets compliments all the time on how it sounds.

I wouldnt mess with your setup. The popcorn tune would be good for a laugh but that novelty would wear off quick (if it could be changed with a flick of a switch but doubtful given its a tune). I couldnt imagine that kind of backfire on a daily ride, its over the top.

Each to their own though.

I have had turbo cars with regular tunes that burbled and popped some. I loved it. But it is more or a turbo thing to me. Sounds cool on the right car.

i think its it’s a fad, and kind of juevenile, and will kill catalytic converters, and is certainly not healthy for the engine in the long run.

I agree with folks above, this is a fad thing. If the car was tuned this way from the factory okay fine I could deal with it, but not making the car do it. Even on my mr2 I could tell when it was running to rich cause it had hella pops and after fires like that. No Bueno

That one after fire this car has naturally is enough for me and even that still surprises me every now and then

Do we have anyone on the forums running this? I understand running this tune everyday would beat up the engine eventually killing it. Is there a possibility of switching it on/off when you like? I personally like loud and obnoxious but I wouldn't want to run this everyday.

The ISF that was running the tune in the video just blew the engine. It was not an easy switch to turn the pops on and off. He loaded the tune through an OBD2 tuner in early October and it killed the engine last week. Not sure about the reliability of other brands but the "popcorn" tune seems like an engine killer.

So if you're certain the tune killed the engine, what specifically did the tune do to kill the engine? Too lean?
lean?

Or was this just a guess on your part ?

Details!

not down. and honestly pointless considering your most likely damaging cats if running them. but just mainly annoying.

Car ran great for years. Loaded tune and 2 months later let go. We call that compelling evidence in my line of work .

I'm not exactly sure what the caused the engine to die but it sounds like the tune didn't help. It is a friend of a friend who owned the car and it has already been taken away. I don't think the failure was diagnosed at all. Will try to find out more when I see him next but most likely not soon with the holidays.
