Default Gutting Mufflers, good idea?

Curious if anyone has taken this route. How’s the drone? If so, Is there any way to reduce drone? I read somewhere that welding weights on the straight pipe reduces drone.

Why gut them when you can just remove them?

I rode in a 2012 with muffler delete from SoCal to Dallas, and it wasn't bad at all until you got on it hard. Then it sounded like a Cup Car.

I remember reading that somebody reduced the drone with what you’re referencing. Remove the mufflers, add straight pipes, then remove the little rubber/metal weight from the muffler and strap it to the straight pipe.

there we go. Where exactly is this weight though? I don’t see it when I look at my mufflers.

I think it’s bolted on the backside of the driver muffler. See it on the below? (Stolen pic from google)

that square looking thing? Is there anything else an experienced welder can do for me to reduce drone? There has to be something. It’s not like we’re building a NASA rocket here.. maybe they could weld a J pipe?

oh I see it. So that would have to get cut off and welded to the pipe huh? And that actually works?

The point is, it didn't drone. I'd've had my Bose headphones on the entire way if it did. It was easy to hold a conversation cruising on the highway.

Could you cut the mufflers off and replace with maybe a stinger or cherry bomb type muffler ?

There are other ways to reduce drone like adding a dead end to the pipe. There are also ways to calculate the length and placement based on the frequency that drones.

that’s what I’m talking about. I want my car loud but I don’t want a droney cabin, a little tiny bit of drone sure, but nothing deafening and nothing that makes me feel like I’m in a massage chair either. I’m not asking for much.
