Default Needing advice on tyre fitment

Hi CL,

I am in need of some advice, I am currently running 19x9.5 +38 on the rears with stock 2008 suspension.

With 275/35/19 Tyres, I am pretty much rubbing on any sort of fast cornering or even going through a roundabout. - Rubbing is on the outta edge of the tyre

Question is: Would rolling my fenders fix this problem? or would it be best to go for a 265 or 255 setup?

Thanks!

You probably would have had better luck with 275/30. I went with 275/35s first too and had issues in the front and rear. After some more research I found many people saying exactly this. So I took their advice and bought an entirely new set of tires ~3 months later. Simply swapping for the 30s series took 90% of the rubbing issues away instantly. If you're still rubbing after that a roll will probably be enough. Worst case scenario put on some camber arms and dial a tiny bit of camber in.

Thanks for the reply, I had thought about 275/30 but willtheyfit.com pretty much says itll be almost the same as 35. Would you recommend doing a roll first or swapping out the tyres?

30 series tires will ride harsher and provide less wheel protection. Rolling can increase potential rust issues if your in a wet or salty climate, as it puts micro cracks in the paint and, if rolled flat can trap moisture. I see rusted out rolled fenders in indiana all the time.

Just food for thought. Your mileage may vary.

instead of getting the fenders rolled, you could try and get the tabs cut. That way you are not messing with the paint. It sounds scary but nobody will ever see those inner tabs unless you are removing the wheel

Yeah I had a look yesterday and was wondering whether anyone had had that done? - but it sounds like alot more than rolling fenders with a heatgun done by a pro shop.

I have my rear fenders rolled flat with no negatives

I'm on 9X10 offset +46mm, tires 295/30/19. The difference in height between and 275/35/19 and a 275/30/19 tire is 1.0" so willtheyfit.com is wrong. I also recommend trying 275/30/19.

Not sure if it is common where you are but here in IN, I know many people who got their tabs cut, the shop just cuts off a part of the tab that would rub and then sands it to make sure it won’t damage the wheel/tire and puts clear coat on it to ensure it won’t rust

I got 245/35s in the front and 275/30s in the rear. Fronts are a +32 offset and rears are a +40 on a 9.5in wheel, so not much difference and I don't rub period. I'd go to a 30. Also on stock 2008 suspension.

Thanks for this, this will most likely be the route I end up taking then. What tyre brand are you running?

Hankook evo v12s uhp. I like them so far, just put them on last month. Got a killer deal on them for black Friday.

If a 275/30 will fit, theres no reason a 265/30 won't fit right?

Correct it'll be a little shorter and a little less width

That plus adding some rear camber. Try the Megan racing arms. My rears are 40 offset, 9.5 width, tire 285/30/19 and I had my fenders rolled and pulled and it didn’t look right so I added camber -2.4 both sides and it looks amazing I love it. No rubbing or anything and corner grip is awesome!

If you shave or cut anything, make sure you sand well and add a high quality paint and clear. It will protect your investment.
