Default ISF Electrical - Blowing 10 amp Dome Fuse

About two years ago I had an electrical issue I tracked down to a faulty LED light in the dome. I was troubleshooting with the door open & could smell it since the light was on so long. I had installed
these these
a year or so before. Symptoms were:
  • Weak / quiet chime when the door was opened
  • Fuel gauge bouncing & not responding immediately to "full."
  • Odd transmission behavior (I know this is unlikely & may have been placebo - but I swear it was shifting more frequently on roads I'm familiar with)
I replaced the LED with a Sylvania from an auto parts store & all problems went away.

Last week I noticed the weak chime again and figured another LED had gone bad. This time around the trans was acting fine & both dome lights had gone out. My first suspicion was the battery even though it tested fine. Mine's a bit old, but it's always been well cared for. Next check, I found the 10 amp dome fuse blown.

It'd immediately blow again once I put a new one in - doors closed, car off & key far away (no puddle light activation). I removed all the LED lights I had put in and found no obvious problem... dome liights, courtesy lights, etc. Everything except the puddle lights (PITA). Nothing. Before I take apart the mirrors to check the puddle lights, I check the trunk light (which I'd never changed) and found the culprit:

I left it disconnected rather than repairing it for now & no more blown fuses. Fuel gauge is fine, chime is fine & all interior lights are back. I've done a CF spoiler install along with trunk struts but haven't been in the trunk much otherwise. Thought I'd post this in case someone else has these issues down the road & to eliminate any possible fire hazard.

Looks like you stuffed something big in the trunk at some point and damaged the wiring and housing. If it were mine, I'd pop the wires out of the connector and put some heat shrink tubing around them individually so they don't short out or corrode easily over time.

I have actually been guilty of stuffing large items into the trunk and smashing up against the trunk light from time to time. Probably worth an inspection...

Yep, those wires were definitely pinched at some point.
