Default Novel CF Hood questions

Hey guys, so Im doing some research on the Novel CF hood for the ISF and I have a question for you guys that have the hood.

Is there a plate to block off the vents on rainy and/or carwash days? Im strongly contemplating getting one of those hoods as I like the placement of the vent and Novel's quality in carbon fiber ( i have the rear diffuser which i absolutely love, despite its very outspoken aggressive style).

Thanks in advance

I’ve had the hood for about a year now. It’s very functional at keeping air well circulated. To your question on the vent, there isn’t a plate. I ended up purchasing some mesh wires from amazon so that leafs don’t fall in. One other thing to point out, it doesn’t come with a hood latch. I ended up getting the aerocatch pin (which requires drilling into the hood). I think others have fabricated the latch which there is a place w predrilled holes. For some reason, it didn’t come with the hood.

if you have any question, please feel free to send me a dm. Happy to help where I can.

Absolutely beautiful. So mesh to keep the leaves/debris out. How about on days you wash the car? I do a very thorough pressure wash/foam wash on the car, obviously i want to limit the amount of water that gets in the engine bay as much as possible. Weird how it didnt come with a hood latch, i would prefer to use the oem latch if possible.

Also hows your clearcoat holding up on the hood? Big thanks for your help. I will definitely PM if I have any further questions.

I’m learning about vented hoods, and I’m just blown away that a $2500 hood doesn’t latch and immediately needs drilled and modified to work on the car.

How is fitment? Is it OEM level?

Yes fitment is pretty darn close. I'd rate it at 98-99%

I also was interested in the Novel hood, until I saw the Icode. Vents aren't as aggressive as Novel's, which I like, and already comes with latch and aerocatch (recessed fit!) But it didn't come clearcoated

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have someone cut vents in the OEM hood?

This will avoid needing to paint/clear coat and install a brand new hood which may or may not have the hardware needed to work like OEM.

I've been looking at the E90/E92 M3 hood vents online and they are not super aggressive. Kind of look similar to the LFA hood vents...

Probably not cheaper in California, lol. Everything is so expensive here.

1. You could never go back to OEM without repainting the hood.
2. Weight savings maybe like 4-5lb? Novel hood is very thin.
3. Novel hood has to be much better cooling than E92 M3 hood vents.
4. I like E92 M3 hood vents (I even had an E92 M3 for a few years!) but they are very recognizable. Putting them on an IS-F would just feel wrong, IMO.
5. I wonder what the cost of LFA hood vents are? That could be interesting.

Anything LFA is obscenely expensive. Even the F badge on the front fender is crazy money.

OK...I have a JMA Racing CF hood. It has the center vent like Novel and side vents like Seibon. It is also 100% CF unlike Novel (CFRP I believe), comes pre-drilled for Aerocatch latches. Dropped my track temps by 15-20 degrees and was a weight savings of 13lbs I think. I also got the mesh like others and it does well. I daily it so in rain, snow, car washes, etc. No concerns about water access for me. See my build thread post here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...l#post11277907
(pics were before I installed the mesh)
I thought about using www.racelouvers.com on my OEM hood, but no weight savings and difficult to resell.
Any questions - feel free to DM me.

This looks great! Wish I saw this around before ordering the Novel hood.
